Peoria Preseason I.D.: Preview

The second annual Peoria Preseason I.D. is headed back to the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex this Wednesday, Feb. 20. Currently, there are over 60 prospects planning to attend – and registration is still open.

Looking back at last year’s roster, 20 of the 2018 Peoria participants have since committed to play at the next level. Among them, Illinois commit RHP Andrew Pogue (Dunlap, 2019) and two-way prospect Connor Aten (Galesburg, 2020), who’s committed to Bradley.

The 2018 showcase wound up serving as Aten’s breakout party. He looks like he has two-way potential but has shown better looks on the mound, and was up to 87 mph in Peoria. Aten’s rise last January has our staff looking forward to seeing who this year’s biggest surprise will be.

Washington backstop Chase Mason is an uncommitted junior who could be capable of making a splash in Peoria this Wednesday. He’s an athletic catcher who has a strong arm and consistently finds the barrel at the plate.

Another prospect of note is Robinson RHP/1B Brayden Childress (2020), whom we just saw at the McHenry Preseason I.D. in late January. That was our first look at the uncommitted, 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect. Childress, who ended up ranked as the No. 2 junior from the event has a physical right-handed swing and is a natural around the bag at first base.

Many of the prospects headed to Peoria will be making their PBR debut, so it’s a wonder which of the players on Wednesday will come away with some momentum headed into the spring.

  • Check-in for *ALL* Players: 5:15 to 5:30 p.m.

  • Position Player Format

    • Offensive Evaluations (exit velo, mechanical analysis, batting practice)

    • Defensive Evaluations (arm strength, mobility, positional reps)

  • Pitcher Format

    • Bullpen Sessions (15-pitch session, mechanical analysis)

    • Catcher Evaluations (evaluating receiving/blocking skills)

    • Catchers will stay for both sessions.
