Indianapolis—Conference Indiana opponents squared off at Holder Field Tuesday night, when Perry Meridian hosted the Franklin Central Flashes. In a game that only took an hour and 52 minutes to play, both pitchers dominated. Both teams combined for 4 hits total and surprisingly only one hit was a single. For Perry Meridian, they made their one and only hit count. It was a two RBI double off the bat of junior Brendan Dudas. Those two runs were enough to beat the Flashes 2-1.

AJ Taylor (2013) pitched for the Flashes and took a no hitter into the sixth inning. Taylor ended up running out of gas in the sixth and walked two batters before Dudas doubled. Taylor finished the day working 5 and 2/3 innings striking out 6 Falcons and only yielding the one hit and two runs in a tough loss. Taylor was consistently 78-80 with a good breaking ball that kept hitters off balance. Taylor was effective because of the ability to throw his breaking ball in any count.

John Hardwick was almost equally impressive for the Falcons. Hardwick also struck out 6 and only gave up two hits in 4 and 2/3 innings of work. Justin Jones (2013) doubled to lead off the fifth and would eventually score on a wild pitch. The Flashes missed a big opportunity when they stranded the bases loaded in the fourth. Hardwick is an unsigned senior with a fastball that sits 80-83 with a breaking ball that shows good movement, but was unable to throw it consistently for a strike in Tuesday night’s matchup.
