Player Analysis from June 18th's Ft. Wayne Top Prospect Showcase

On June 18th, 2014 a total of 30 players attended the Ft. Wayne Top Prospect Showcase at Northrop HS in Fort Wayne, IN.  Below, we analyze each player.

In Alphabetical Order by 1st Name 

Adam Roser, MIF/OF, Northfield HS, 2015: 5’11/160, 7.1/60, bats left throws right. Very strong, athletic and smart player. Adam has the ability to play multiple positions, defensively he has a live arm (79 MPH from the OF) At the plate he hits out of a balanced stance and short stride, the bat explodes through the zone. He doesn’t swing through very many pitches. Has the ability to hit for power. Projects as a college 2b or OF

Anthony Miller,RHP, FW Northrop HS,2015: 6’2/170. Pitches from a ¾ arm slot and produces downhill plain. Delivery is loose and easy. FB sits at 81 with arm side movement. CB is workable, better than average high school change up.

Ben Yoss, INF, FW Northrop HS, 2017: 5’10/145,8.09/60, Lanky frame. Young player that played varsity SS and 3b this past season. Has a good feel for the game. 71-72 across the infield, feet work well. He hits out of a athletic stance with a long stride bats stays on plain through the zone.

Brody Myers, OF, Norwell HS, 2016: 5’11/180,7.4/60 throws from outfield at 75 mph and accurate. Strong and athletic build. has good hands and feet. Offensively he has a balanced stance, the bats stays on plain through the zone. Brody is strong enough to hit for power.

Cade Willard, RHP/OF, Eastside HS, 2017: 6’1/170,7.01/60, Most projectable player at this camp. Quick arm, ¾ slot loose at release. FB was 82-84 with late, heavy action. Throws 3 pitches for strikes. Slider was 61-67, change up 65. He repeats his delivery. Threw 86 from the OF with carry and accuracy. Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, bat explodes though the zone with extension through contact. 

Cameron Beauchamp, LHP/OF, Peru HS,2016: 6’1/195, 7.59/60, Wide shoulders on a strong frame. ¾ arm angle with a long, balanced delivery. FB was 83-85 with downhill plain, slider (68-70) is workable, change up 73. Offensively he hits from the left side out of a balanced stance with a long stride, bat explodes through the zone with pull side power, he hits for power and average.

Carter Roach, MIF,Leo HS, 20175’6/140,7.94/60 athletic build.  Good hands, 68 mph across the infield. Balanced hitting stance with a long swing.

Cody Caudill, MIF/RHP, Montpelier HS (OH) 2015: 5’9/160, 7.54/60, 71 mph across the infield with a loose arm. Average hands and feet. Balanced hitting stance.

Collin Bice, C/RHP, Dekalb HS,20155’10/1657.22/60, 2.18-2.25 pop time. Short, quick arm action from behind the plate. Hits out of a open stance with a high knee stride. On the mound FB was 72-75, CB sat at 67.

Dane Hoffman, SS/3B Bluffton HS, 2015: 5’11/175, 7.09/60, Raw player with tons of skill. 72 mph across the infield with a long ¾ slot, solid hands and quick feet. Contact hitter with a balanced stance and long stride. Gets the bat through the zone on a level plain.

Danny Torres, MIF, South Bend St Joe HS,2016: 5’10/150 7.22/60, Solid infielder with soft hands, quick feet and a loose arm ( 76 mph across the infield)  Hits from a open stance with a long stride, average bat speed with a level path to the ball.

Garrett Mohler, INF, New Haven HS, 2015: 6’1/190, 7.22/60, solid hands with short, loose arm action (78 mph across the infield) Feet move good and he fields his position real well. Offensively he is gap to gap type hitter that  hits from a balanced stance with a long stride. The ball jumps off his bat with good extension through contact. 

Gunner Brown, RHP/INF. Leo HS, 20165’10/160, 7.38/60, Athletic player with a short arm action, throws across  the infield were 71-73 and always on target.  Balanced hitting stance with very little load and a short stride and a long path to the ball. On the mound he was 75-78 with some arm side run and good control. Slider 71, Curveball 61-62 and change up 62.  Short ¾ arm delivery with very little lower body movement.

Hunter McKelvey, C/3B, Montpelier HS (OH) 20155’11/170, 7.41/60, 2.06-2.13 pop times, Athletic catcher with a short, quick exchange and release, plus footwork and moves well behind the plate, makes pitchers look good. Hits from a balanced stance with short stride and and long path to the ball. Has pull side power with a slight upper cut.

Jacob Wolfe, RHP, Columbia City HS, 20155’11/175. Strong, athletic with wide shoulders and narrow hips. Fastball is 81-83 mph and bores in on RHH, CB is serviceable (74-76 mph) throws change up with good arm speed, sat 76 mph. He has a ¾ arm slot with average arm speed. Delivery is long with some effort.

Jake Morris, RHP/MIF, Boone Grove HS, 2015: 5’8/180, 7.63/60, Athletic frame. On the mound fastball was 74-76 with armside run, curveball was his best pitch, 64 mph with 12/6 late break, Change up 70 mph with sink, he threw all three pitches for strikes from a loose ¾ arm slot. With the bat he hit from a wide stance with a long stride. Will hit for average. Intense player.

Jared Shoup, RHP/1b, Montpelier HS (OH) 2015: 6’3/215, 7.90/60, 81mph across the infield with some carry. Hits from a balance stance with a short stride and a long path to the ball.

Jimmy Shea, C/OF, FW Bishop Dwenger HS, 2017: 6’3/175, 7.15/60, 2.25-2.40 pop time. Good looking young catcher with room to fill out and get stronger. Has a short quick release from behind the plate. Has good hands and works hard. Hits from an athletic stance with a short stride and a compact swing.

John Tuttle, C, FW Northrop HS, 2015: 6’0/165, 7.34/60, 1.97-2.05 pop times. Blocks well, receives well and throws it well every time. He is a legit impact guy in college. He is strong and well built. Balanced and athletic hitting stance with a short stride and a slight upper cut that will generate pull power.

Josh Smith, C/RHP, FW Southside HS, 2018: 6’1/175, 7.78/60. Lanky body with room to fill out and get stronger. On the mound FB was 70-71, CB was 61-63 and Change up was 58-62. Offensively he hit from a balanced stance with his hands high and a long path to the ball.

Joseph Albomonte, OF, Adrean HS, 2016:  5’9/155, 7.13/60, L/L Hits from a wide stance with a short stride, gets extension through contact, line drive type hitter. Threw strikes to 3b from the outfield (75mph)  

Logan Green, C/3b, Huntington North HS, 20165’6/175, 8.15/60, 2.13-2.18 pop time with carry. Catches and throws real well. Tough kid, intelligent, knows how to play. Hits from a slightly open stance with a short stride and compact swing that is level through the hitting zone. Going to be a line drive type hitter.

Matt Olovich, SS/RHP, Guerin Catholic HS, 2017: 5’9/150, 7.44/60.  Young, strong, athletic player, 87 mph from the OF with carry and on target. Soft hands and quick feet. Glove instincts and a smooth ball transfer. Hits from the right side, athletic stance, long stride with a level path and fluid rhythm. On the mound he pitches from a ¾ slot with a loose easy delivery, fastball is 77-80 with life, curve ball is sweeping, slows arm to throw it 63-64, change up is 65-69. He throws all three pitches for strikes. 

Michael Brewer, OF/INF, FW Snider HS, 20185’11/160, 7.07/60 Best young player I have seen in years. Strong and talented and his body has room to grow and get stronger.  Velo from the OF was 80 mph and was very loose and release was easy. He has above average hands and quick feet. Ball transfer is effortless, fields his position like an athlete. With the bat! LOOK OUT! The ball jumps off his bat. He hits from a balanced stance with a short stride and fast hands. Will hit for power and average at a young age. Follow this guy

Nikolos Kavadas, OF/RHP, Mishawaka Penn HS, 20176’0/195, 7.54/60 Strong and athletic body with room to fill out and get stronger. Has a plus arm from the outfield (86 mph) with carry. Gets in good position to throw and is a reliable fielder. His bat will carry, he hits from an athletic stance, with a short, smooth stride and load. He generates bats speed from a quick lower body, line drive type hitter. Very projectable player

Nolan Metcalf, C/1B, Mishawaka Penn HS, 2017: 6’3/215, 7.9/60, 2.0-2.06 pop time, Athletic catcher with a strong arm and fluid feet. Moves well behind the plate. Throws strikes to second base. Intense competitor. Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride and has extension through the ball at contact. Definite follow.

Rick Ehle, RHP, Woodlan HS, 2015: 6’3/185, Athletic pitcher. Lanky and strong. Body has room to fill out and add strength. Pitches from a low ¾ slot and fills up the strike zone .  Delivery is easy, Fastball is 80-83 with downhill plain and occasional run. Slider is sweeping with gradual break, change up is his out pitch (75 mph) plus sink. Early impact guy at the right college.

Shawn Kitzmiller, INF, Woodlan HS, 20155’10/160, 7.27/60, Athletic infielder, 73 across the infield. Balanced and athletic hitting approach, stride is long with a level bat and extension through contact. Pull hitter. Projected college 2b.

Trenton Stoner, INF, South Bend St Joe HS, 2017: 6’0/180, 7.50/60. young, athletic and projectable. He hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, hands drop slightly as they load. Good bat speed with a long path to the ball. 72-74 across the infield with good glove skills.

Trevor Waite, OF, Mishawaka Penn HS, 20176’0/180, 6.94/60, bats left throws right. Athletic outfielder that throws (75 mph) strikes to 3b. Quick feet and good ball transfer. Hits from a open stance with a short stride. Bat drags and path is long to the ball.
