Porsche Exchange Player of the Week: Lisle's Ty Howell

By Sean Duncan

Ty Howell has been in the zone all season, but last week, the 5-foot-11, 180-pound two-way standout from Lisle HS took his game to new heights. Howell earned Porsche Exchange Player of the Week honors after he tallied 17 RBI, 3 HR, 3 doubles and 1 triple while batting .579 in a five-game span last week. Howell, an unsigned senior 1B/RHP, also earned a win on the mound.

Not coincidentally, Lisle (23-4) went 5-0 during Howell’s torrid hitting streak, which included winning the Lisle Invitational.

Howell began his week by going 2-for-4 with a home run, double and 3 RBI. He also struck out five in four innings work during the victory against Seneca on Monday. After suffering his only hitless game of the season, Howell went on a hitting binge. On Thursday against Dwight, he went 2-for-4 with 2 homers and 4 RBI, then followed it up with a 3-for-3 day with 5 RBI, which included a double, a walk and a stolen base against Guerin.

In two games Saturday, Howell went 4-for-5 with 5 RBI, 4 runs, a triple, 2 stolen bases and 2 walks.

“Ty is a great all-around player and he is not missing many pitches this season,” said Lisle coach Pete Meyer.  “The kid can flat out hit.  If he has a chance to put good wood on it, he will do it.  He is just doing it all.”

Howell has been producing all season for the Class 2A program. Through April 22, Howell is hitting .544 in 79 at-bats with 14 doubles, 7 homers, 3 triples, 42 RBI, 30 runs, 11 stolen bases and 43 hits. He’s slugging at a 1.063 clip and has only struck out 5 times all season. On the mound, he’s 4-0.

Howell is also tied for Valedictorian in his graduating class.

The Porsche Exchange salutes Howell for his hard work and success.
