Pre-Season Preview: Southgate Anderson HS

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

Today we turn our attention downriver to Southgate Anderson HS coached by Dave Fast.  In 2012, the Titans of Southgate Anderson finished the season 22-12 and ended up being District Champions.  In fact, 2012 marked their third straight district title.

This season looks to be no different.  The Titans return six starters and have good depth on the mound with five returning pitchers.  They will have a nice blend of senior leadership and younger impact juniors.

Senior Tyler Shumake leads the Titans both behind the plate and offensively.  Shumake hit .427 in 2012 and had a breakout season.  He will handle the pitching staff and be a leader.  Other seniors sure to make an impact are Greg Galetto, 3B/RHP, an All-Region performer, Shane Frietag, 1B/LF, who it .380 last year, and Paul Sullivan, CF, who will hit lead off and played outstanding defense.  Perhaps the wildcard on the Titan team will be the performance of Senior Bobby Bellon, LHP, who has the potential to be the No. 1 starter for Southgate Anderson.

Tyler Hall, SS, is a Junior who will anchor the middle of the infield at short.  He too should compete for the No. 1 starter position on the mound.

It appears the Downriver League should be fun to watch in 2013, especially as Southgate tries to knock off defending champion Trenton HS.
