Pre-Season Underclass I Class of 2013 Results

Today, we breakdown the top performers from the Class of 2013 at the first Pre-Season Underclass. Don't forget, the second Pre-Season Underclass will be held on Saturday, February 18th in Dayton. Videos will be uploaded in the coming days.

Andrew McDonald

1. Andrew McDonald, RHP, Mason
Big body, somewhat imposing on mound. Long arms. Good delivery with improved balance. Moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Achieves good extension. Aggressive with fastball that shows good run and life (86-89 mph). Uses slurvy type hard breaker (77-80). Has decent arm action on change, but needs to enhance movement (79-80). Around plate with control. Definite major D-1 to possible HS draft prospect. Has body all scouts look for.

Steven Duby

2. Steven Duby, RHP, Maumee
Good build on medium body and shows some strength. Clean delivery with quick arm speed through up 3/4 slot. Gets good extension. Can project velocity increase w/quick arm. FB shows some run & cut movement (87-89 mph). Showed good downward tilt on hard curve (77-78) and late bite slider (79-81). Has good arm action on change (75 mph) with some downward action. Shows good control. Aggressive. At this point, solid major D-1 prospect to future HS draft possibility.

John Crawford

3. John Crawford, LHP/OF, Wapakoneta
Has physical projection in athletic body. Good delivery with extension. Arm works well with moderate arm speed through upper 3/4 slot. Aggressive with fastball (83-84 mph) that shows good late life with run. Good developing off-speed pitches. Shows spin on curve (68-71 mph) and has feel for change (73 mph). Around the plate with control. Good 2-way prospect for college. Solid Mid-major D-1 at this point with room to get better.

4. Sean Pfeifer, OF/RHP, Springboro
Strong physical body with some strength projection. Best position is corner OF. Good raw skills (5.13 40 yd & 4 grade arm 77-79 mph). Hits from power crouch. gets excellent torque from lower body. Has strength in hands and good bat speed into zone with controlled upper-cut. Will need to improve consistency in stride staying square to the pitcher. Has definite power projection. Defensively, corner type with strong arm and life in body. On the mound, he shows a deliberate delivery, gets extension with moderate 3/4 arm speed. Fastball fairly straight (80-81 mph). Shows spin on downward tilt curve and shows change that's fairly straight (70 mph). Mid-major D-1 corner OF.

5. Tony Winters, LHP/OF, Watkins Memorial
Smallish body, shows good physical strength, but little projection. Good skills guy (5.11 40 yd on concrete). Centerfield type who shows life in body, good range and solid arm (76-77 mph). Offensively, contact guy with occasional pop - shows good load and bat speed into zone with some lower body torque. Will need to tweak from occasionally pulling off pitch. On the mound, the southpaw shows balanced delivery with moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Shows some late movement on fastball, ranging 81-82 mph. Has good feel on slurvy type curve (70-71 mph). Change is somewhat straight but sells am action (67-68). Likely a Mid-major D-1 prospect.

6. Tyler Pagano, RHP, Pickerington North
Strong, medium build with wide shoulders. Deliberate delivery with moderate arm speed through upper 3/4 slot. Fastball is fairly straight (81-84) with some downward tilt feel on curve (63-64). Uses near fastball arm speed with changeup, which shows fade (72 mph).

7. Peter Yorgen, OF/IF/C, Vandalia Butler
Smallish, athletic body with some physical strength. Shows baseball sense. Good raw skills guy (5.17 40 on concrete and velocity of 81-83 mph). Defensively as outfielder, shows good life in body with solid over top arm strength. Looks to play all OF positions. Behind the plate, he shows good lateral/blocking ability and accepts ball with 2.01-2.07 pop time. In the infield, he shows good feet and hands as infielder, but long transfer as he pats glove on throws. Offensively, gap hitter - has shown improvement in lower half and gets better torque. Squares front side with some bat speed through finish. Needs to improve hand load to enhance extension. Offers versatility. Potential Mid-Major D-1 roster guy, but needs to master one position.

8. Ryan Annett, RHP, Alter
Medium, stocky build guy without much physical projection. Shows good delivery with moderate arm speed through up 3/4 slot. Gets extension and arm works well. Has some movement on fastball, ranging (82-84 mph). Shows feel for off speed pitches. Shows slurvy type tilt on curveball (77 mph) and some spin on slow curve (70-71mph). Decent arm action on change (76). Currently projects as a solid D-2 pitcher, with some physical strength increase could be Mid-major guy.

9. Dakota, Cararo, C, Gahanna Lincoln
Smallish build, has athleticism. Good baseball skills. Shows good active body defensively, blocks well and has good glove to hand exchange. Top velocity of 74 mph from the crouch and pop time of 1.94-1.97. Needs to add physical strength to enhance durability. Good balanced stance as left-handed hitter. Shows bat speed into zone with good load and decent lower body. Contact to gap hitter. Solid D-2 catcher who has D-1 skills. Increase of physical strength will be his key.

10. Alex Nikolai, RHP, Alter
Medium, lanky body with some physical projection. Throws from stretch, has moderate arm speed through 3/4 arm slot. Fastball shows some movement (81-82 mph). Curveball shows some downward tilt (66-68 mph). Shows decent arm action & feel of change up (75-77 mph). One to watch if he gets physically stronger.

11. Joseph Swisher, IF, Westerville Central
Smallish body with some physical projection. Raw skills are good (5.29 40 yd concrete with 3-4 arm). More suited as right side infielder or possible outfielder. Active body defensively with good feet and hands & accurate throws. Balanced stance offensively with slight crouch, good hand load with controlled upper cut and bat speed into zone. Finishes well. Gets nice lower half torque. Has some front side leakage and needs to square up front side more consistently. Good small college bat, needs to get physically stronger.

12. Zack Reboulet, IF, Alter
Medium, lanky body with some physical strength projection. Shows good infield skills with range, soft hands, and quick feet. Needs to improve overall foot speed (5.71 40 yard dash) to be middle guy. Makes contact as a hitter but swing is inside out and needs enhancement of lower body.

13. A.J. Etzkorn, LHP, Wapakoneta
Medium body and shows some physical projection. Clean delivery with moderate arm speed through upper 3/4 arm slot. Shows some cut on fastball (78-80 mph). Has some spin on downward tilt, 1/7 curveball (65-66 mph) and decent arm action on change (73-74 mph). Shows some control.

Best of the Rest

Adam Watts, C, Xenia
Showed good lateral ability & blocking. Accepts ball well. Tends to get too high in set-up, which forces him to raise upright to throw. Registered 1.94 to 2.1 pop time with 64-65 mph velocity. As a hitter, he uses upright stance with good hand load. Needs to better incorporate lower half into his swing.

Austin Ingleston, RHP/IF, Liberty Benton
Physical, medium body. Moderate raw skills (5.59 40 yard dash). Shows good range and feet defensively, but displays stiff backside arm extension. Shows strong hands as a hitter but swing is flat and has little lower half. On the mound, he uses a slow rhythm with average arm speed through a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball tends to be erratic (74-76 mph); curve shows late, downward break (69 mph) and changeup shows straight movement (71-72 mph).

Brice Bennett, RHP, Piketon
Medium stocky body with little projection. Moderate arm through up 3/4 slot. Requires some effort to delivery. Needs to improve arm strength in all velocities. Straight fastball (74-76 mph); some gradual break on curve (63-64 mph) and change (67-70 mph).

Brock Bolden, C, Coschocton
Strong body type. Shows good raw skills for size (5.45 40 yard dash). Defensively, shows good hands and arm from corner. Behind the plate, he displays good lateral blocking ability, but tends to set up to high and drop arm angle to side. Closed hitting stance. Swing is a tad long with little lower half incorporation.

Bryan Robinson, C, Piketon
Physically strong, durable body. Behind the plate, he shows good lateral blocking ability and accepts ball. Appears tad rigid and stands upright to make throws. Needs to improve glove to hand exchange (2.2-2.27 pop). Offensively, he uses a closed stance but squares front side to pitcher. Shows quick bat speed and pull power. Needs to continue incorporating lower half into swing.

Derick Powell, RHP, Eastern
Lanky medium build with some physical projection. Good delivery with moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Needs to gain physical strength. FB shows some movement (75-77 mph) while change up shows decent arm action (67 mph). Needs to develop feel of breaking ball (61 mph)

Graham Roan, LHP/OF, Kenton Ridge
Medium build with some physical projection (5.53 40 yd speed). Shows loose actions defensively. Has some hitting potential; squares barrel on ball well with some upper cut. Need to enhance his hand trigger as he tends to be flat. On the mound, he uses moderate arm speed through upper 3/4 slot. Needs to enhance velocities on all pitches. Fastball (74-76 mph); curve (59-61 mph with some spin) and split change (65-66 mph).

Hutch Henry, IF, Carlisle
Short stocky build. (5.62 40 yd). Defensively, arm works well and shows corner infield ability. Needs to improve fluidity and accepting ball. Has strong hands as a hitter but has flat trigger. Bat speed is moderate but will also need to gain more lower half.

John Janusik, IF/RHP, Cincinnati Princeton
Medium build with some physical projection (5.95 40 yard dash). Corner type infielder. Defensively, he shows good hands and accurate arm. Needs improvement with fluidity, balance, and footwork. Shows strong hands as a hitter; swing path a bit long and needs to enhance use of lower body. On the mound, he need to improve overall velocity and correct balance issues. Moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. FB (75-76 mph); curve (61-65 mph with little feel) and change (66-69 mph).

Ken Ruberg, RHP, LaSalle
Tall lanky body with some physical projection. Long, loose arm actin with moderate arm speed through multiple arm slots. Fastball shows some sink (73-76 mph); curve has 10/4 break (64-65 some feel) and changeup lacks consistency (68 mph).

Kevin Ilich, IF, Canal Winchester
Good raw skills (5.01 40 yard dash. Plays through the baseball but needs to quicken transfer and exchange. Good feet and arm strength. Squared stance as hitter with moderate bat speed. Needs to improve lower half torque in swing to increase power potential.

Speros Gabriel, LHP, Dayton Christian
Muscular build. Moderate arm speed through low 3/4 arm slot. Shows stiffness in his delivery. Needs to improve strength in velocities. Fastball (74-75 mph and straight); curve (65-66 mph with little feel); and shows some sink on change up (67-69 mph).

Todd Reichard, RHP, Vandalia Butler
Smallish body (5.42 40 yard dash). Shows good infield skills; has good hands and quick feet. Arm works well. Offensively, gets decent hand load trigger and moderate bat speed into zone. Will need to improve lower half in swing. On the mound, shows below average velocities with moderate arm speed through 3/4 arm slot. Fastball (73-75 mph). Some downward spin on curve (61-62 mph). Slows down arm action with changeup (63 mph).

Tyler Kushner, RHP, Wayne
Moderate arm speed through 3/4 slot. Needs to improve velocity for the next level. Shows straight fastball (76-77 mph). Curve shows gradual 11/5 spin (67-68 mph). Changeup has some sink (72-73 mph).
