Coach Jason Dorshorst and the Morgan Township High School baseball team head into 2013 looking to build off a 2012 campaign that saw the Cherokees win a school record 23 games and a Sectional 49 title. Coach Dorshorst returns six starters and four pitchers from a team that finished with a 5-2 mark in the Porter County Conference.

Leading a solid pitching staff is senior right-hander Joe Dougherty. Dougherty was 8-3 with a 2.06 ERA last season, while racking up 103 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched.  Also atop the rotation for the Cherokees is senior shortstop Ryan Klikus who went 4-1 while also leading the team at the plate with a .440 average.

Coach Dorshorst boasts a solid pair of run producers in the middle of his lineup with third baseman Austin Porter and senior catcher Adam Rettinger. Porter hit .360 and knocked in 28 runs while Rettinger was close behind hitting .340 with 30 RBI’s.

The development of talented freshman Jake Koselke could be a key to Morgan Township’s push towards exceeding the bar set by last year’s regional final appearance.
