Preseason Preview: Rochester HS

By Phil Wade
Director of Operations, PBR Indiana

Coach Brian Hooker and the Rochester Zebras finished the 2012 season with a 19-10 overall record and was 4-3 in the Three Rivers conference which includes 2012 2A State Champion Northfield.  Coach Hooker expects a better year in 2013. Statistically the Zebras return a high percentage of quality offensive, defensive, and pitching numbers.

Rochester returns six starters, including three pitchers.  They are led by senior Peyton Showley, a 6-foot-3, 185 pound infielder who hit .400 with 26 RBI last season. Showley was also selected for the Junior 2A North series in Indianapolis last spring.  Tanner Hampton, a junior RHP/SS, is overall the best player on the team.  Last season Hampton hit .413 with a .536 OBP, totaling only seven strikeouts in 110 plate appearances.  On the mound for the Zebras last spring, he was 3-1 with a 2.00 ERA. Carter Screeton (Junior), Cyrus Holland (Junior), Jacob Howdeshell (Sophomore), and Andrew Feldman (Sophomore) also expect to be key contributors for the Zebras in 2013.

Though Rochester is an overall young team, with only two seniors, they bring back many experienced starters that have seen action since their freshman seasons.
