4A East Quarterfinal

Lafayette at Great Bridge
Whenever this game actually occurs, it will be a very good pitching matchup between Lafayette senior Andre Lipcius (Tennessee) and Great Bridge senior Michael Bienlien (NC State).
 

3A East Championship

William Monroe at Poquoson, 5:00
Poquoson has won by walk-off in both of its Regional games so far. William Monroe thumped Colonial Heights in Wednesday’s semifinal.

 

3A West Semifinals

Blacksburg vs. Turner Ashby, Fluvanna County HS, 6:00
Turner Ashby has been dominant on the mound all spring, look for the Knights to start either junior Justin Showalter (James Madison)  or senior Trent Abernathy (Concord) Blacksburg has been on a bit of Cinderella run through the playoffs, entering the Conference 32 tournament as the fifth seed before upsetting Cave Spring and Christiansburg to advance to the Region tournament. The Bruins upset Magna Vista in the first round of the Regional.

Staunton River vs. Rustburg, Fluvanna County HS, 8:00
Rustburg is the Conference 30 champions, finishing second in the regular season before beating Tunstall in the Championship game. The Devils enter the game 17-4 overall after their win Tuesday over Western Albemarle as they look to return to the State Tournament for the second year in a row. Staunton River finished third in Conference 31 in the regular season and was the runner-up in the tournament, clinching their Region tournament bid. The Golden Eagles pulled a big upset in the quarterfinals, knocking off an Abingdon team that had won 20 games already.

1A West Championship

Fort Chiswell vs. Eastside, UVA-Wise, 6:00
Both teams got well-pitched games in the semifinals to punch their State Tournament tickets. Conference 48 champion Eastside hasn't allowed more than two runs in a playoff game this spring. Conference 46 champ Fort Chiswell is also a team that plays clean defense and pitches well.
