Prep Baseball Report

Q and A with 2014 Brescia Commit: Riley Brown (Bellbrook HS)

Riley Brown, RHP/1B, Bellbrook HS, Class of 2014

PBR: Why did you choose Brescia?

Brown:  I wanted a school where I knew I could get a quality education and as well as a place that felt like home.  They have a strong baseball program and a quality Business school.  I also have family in Owensboro which will help with the transition to college.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Brown: IU-Southeast, Lourdes, Grace and Pikeville

PBR: Where did Brescia first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?

Brown:  I actually took a campus tour and met with Coach Biddle in June.  I also attended their prospect camp in September.  Coach Biddle & I have been in contact ever since.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Brown:  They expect me to come in and compete for a starting position right away.  They also expect me to contribute on the mound.

PBR: You are a multi-position player.  How much of a role played in your decision, knowing that you will be able to play field and pitch at the next level?

Brown:  That was a huge factor.  I talked with several D2 schools that would only allow me to pitch.  I think I can contribute at both positions.

PBR: What summer team do you play on and how has travel baseball helped your development as a player?

Brown:  I play for the Cincinnati Angels.  Travel baseball has allowed me to play against some of the best players in the country.

PBR: Your high school team returns a lot of veteran players.  What are you individual and team goals going into this spring?

Brown:  Individually, my goal is to help my team succeed.  My goal for our team is to win the SWBL conference title and push towards state.  We have a lot of returning players.  I think that if we can stay healthy, we will have a great season.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player

Brown:  Definitely my parents.  They have always been very supportive & rarely miss a game.  They have always pushed me to work hard to reach my potential, especially when I tried to make excuses.

PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Bellbrook?

Brown:  I finished with a record of 4-2 with a 3.1 era.

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Brown:  Andrew Holderman
