Q and A with 2014 Shawnee State Commit: Clay Tefft (Wauseon HS)

Clay Tefft, RHP, Wauseon HS, Class of 2014

PBR: Why did you choose Shawnee State Clay Tefft

Tefft:  I chose Shawnee State because it was a cost affordable school, they had both majors that I was looking to go into, and it presented an opportunity for me to play college baseball.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Tefft: The other schools I was considering were, Tiffin, Ohio State-Lima, and Baldwin Wallace.

PBR:  Where did Shawnee State first see you compete?

Tefft: Shawnee first saw me compete at a Tiffin University showcase.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Shawnee State?

Tefft: My Biggest strength as a player would have to be my mental toughness. I don't let many things get to me when I'm on the mound. I think that I will help Shawnee by going out and grinding and competing hard every day.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Tefft: There are a couple people who I would attribute to my success as a baseball player. First, I would say my dad because he has always pushed me to better myself. Next would have to be my little league coach Josh Erd. He taught all of the kids on the team to play at a higher level than everyone else was. He set expectations on us at a young age and that pushed us to reach those expectations. Lastly I would have to say Ty Suntken and Axel Bueter have helped me greatly. We have always been competing against each other and always pushing one another to be the best players we can be.

PBR:  What were you stats last spring for Wauseon?

Tefft: At the moment I don't have my stats right in front of me.

PBR:  Thoughts on the upcoming season for Wauseon?

Tefft: This upcoming season will be a fun one. We have 4 different kids who can pitch and that will be a big help to our success this spring. We won't have the offense that we had last year but I am looking towards the underclassmen to really step up and surprise a lot of people this spring.
