Quick Hits: Day Three 2020/2021 Arizona State Games

Will Arnold
Arizona Director of Scouting

Aaron Molina, RHP, Red Devils
2021. Molina’s fastball sat mostly 86-88, hitting 89 twice in his late inning relief appearance. He throws with intent and controls the strike zone well to his glove side. He had two breaking balls, one at 70-72 used earlier in counts as more of a get me over. HE also threw a handful of breaking balls at 79 later in counts for strikeouts that are a true out pitch. HE added a change in on occasion at 82 with good arm speed.

Mason Neville, LHP, Sandlot
2022. The physical lefty stands out from the get-go from his advanced body, standing at 6’2 170-pounds. He moved well and sat in the mid-80s, hitting 87 multiple times. He strides in line and used a ¾ arm action. The 1-7 breaking ball has a chance to be a quality pitch as he starts using it more in games.

Isaac Araiza, RHP, Aggies Baseball
2022. At 6’5 205-pounds, Araiza looks the part of many higher-level arms. His fastball was 83-85 MPH with arm side run and sink from his lower ¾ angle, keeping the ball on the ground the majority of his outing. Sweeping breaking ball was in the low 70s and was a tough look for righties after running balls in on their hands. He flashed a changeup that has a chance to be a solid pitch to both righties and lefties.

Andrew Calloway, LHP, Sandlot
2020. The 6’4 lefty was impressive in his outing, sitting 81-84 in his second inning. His ¾ arm slot and long arms add angle to his fastball that had a significant amount of arm side run, starting it in the zone and forcing righties to chase it with its late arm side movement. His sweeping breaking ball was in the low 70s and got many uncomfortable takes from it while in the strike zone.

Jacob Beltran, RHP, Canyon Thunder
2021. Beltran had a good day at the plate, including a triple to right center and a double down the left field line. He uses a leg kick with good adjustability in his swing to make contact. On the mound he was 80-83 controlling the strike zone with multiple pitches. He has a legitimate chance to be a two-way prospect at the next level as he continues to develop.

Kaden Schieflebien, RHP, GBG Arizona
2021. The broad shoulder righty was 83-84 in his second inning of work. His fastball has late arm side run, to both sides of the plate, making his backdoor fastball his most effective pitch to righthanded hitters. He added in a change up in the low 70s that produced multiple swings and misses from lefties. He isn’t far away from being an upper 80s arm, just needs to continue to add strength.

Matthew Martinez, RHP, AZ Athletics
2021. Martinez’s fastball was up to 82 from a 3/2 slot. He spins the ball very well with two different breaking balls, buckling multiple right-handed hitters and getting awkward swings early in his outing. Change up is also a quality pitch thrown from the same arm slot and arm speed as his fastball. His fastball control will need to improve so he can get to his off- speed pitches more but spins it as well as any 2021 you’ll find.
