Recruits on the Rise: 7.03.17

By: Zac Bottoms
Arkansas Scouting Director

As we continue to move through the summer, we move onto four more athletes which are making a name for their selves playing well this summer.

Recruit on the rise, Kam’Ron Mays-Hunt recently committed to Arkansas. While Peyton Holt which was featured earlier in the summer has now picked up 2 offers this summer.

Jack Stroth, C, Conway HS, AR
Stroths is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound backstop with an athletic frame. He is a solid defender with pop times consistently in the 1.94-2.11 range. He blocks and receives with solid effort and technique. Offensively, he starts with an athletic stance with a slight load and stride. He attacks the baseball with a quick bat and remains balanced through extension. Overall Stroth is the top uncommitted catcher in the 2018 class and should go off the board shortly as he is an advanced defender which plays the game at a high level.

John Hoskyn, C, Stuttgart HS, 2019
Physical 6-foot, 199-pound frame, strong build. Quality defender with solid receiving and blocking skills. Short arm action into high-¾ release with carry on throws, that gave a 2.12-second pop time in-between innings. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, short stride and smooth load. Powerful, compact stroke with fluid rhythm, bat speed and strength at contact. Finished the day 2-for-3 with a double.

Luke Davenport, RHP, Fayetteville HS, 2020
Strong 5-foot-10, 190-pound frame, powerful lower half, clear present strength. Medium arm stroke into high-¾ release with regular effort, and quality arm speed. Solid rhythm to the delivery, level shoulders, in-line direction, and lands square. Pitched 81-84 mph with his fastball, flashing ability to get on top of pitch, creating angle down in the zone at times. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with solid spin and depth at 68-71 mph.

 Nick Griffin, LHP, Monticello, 2020
Lean 6-foot-1, 160-pound frame, wiry build, room to add strength and size. Long arm action into ¾ release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Solid rhythm and tempo throughout the delivery with in-line direction, and lands square. Fastball sat 81-84 mph with slight arm side run, and solid control. Breaking ball showed solid velocity at 75-76 mph, with short, 2/8 shape, but flashed more depth with the pitch on occasion. Pitched two shutout innings, striking out 1, and did not allow a hit.
