Granby 9, Menchville 0

Granby capitalized on timely hitting, taking advantage of some Menchville errors, and an outstanding performance from sophomore Daniel Smith. The Comets scored four runs in back to back innings in the middle of the game and ran away with the semifinal, advancing to the 5B Region final, as well as locking in their spot in the 5A State Championships.

Nansemond River 9, Maury 6

What a game. Maury jumped out to an early 3-0 lead when Brycen Hamilton kept a line drive fair into left field that scored three Commodores. Nansemond River, like Maury, would take advantage of some walks and timely hitting. This time 2024 Aden Judge would hit a bases clearing triple to give Nansemond River a 4-3 lead in the second. Both teams would go back and forth in the middle innings before Maury took a 5-4 lead into the seventh. Nansemond River would once again come battling back. CNU commit Ayden Stuffel unloaded on a triple in the right center gap that would score Aden Judge, who reached via HBP, and we were once again all knotted up. Some really quality at bats by Jordan Crosland (Maryland) and Cam Johnson would result in a couple of walks and the Warriors carried a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh. In the bottom half Maury took advantage of a Hunter Gillespie single. The misplayed single into left field kicked by the Warriors left fielder and scored the tying run for the Commodores. In extras the Warriors pulled away. aA Clay Grady (Virginia Tech) groundball was misplayed to give NR the lead and then that was followed up by another strong at bat from Maryland commit Jordan Crosland. Crosland would double down the third base line and it would score two Warriors baserunners. A quick bottom of the eight was ended on a 4-6-3 double play and Nansemond River advances to the 5B Regional title game and earns their spot in the 5A State Championships next week.
