Saturday Top Performers

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Saturday marked the final day of the 2019 Future Games. Here are the day’s top performers.

Team Alabama
2021 OF/1B Chandler Brewer (Hazel Green HS, AL) is a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder and showed why he belonged at the Future Games, as his bat was a force all week. He continually showed juice in BP and hit two missiles for doubles on Saturday night.

Team Arizona
Somehow 5-foot-8, 155-pound 2022 OF Ethan Hott (Chaparral HS, AZ) had his best day of the event Saturday, going 3-for-3 with a ground rule double and two singles. He stuffed the box score by also scoring two runs and driving in one. He also had an opportunity to show off his range in center field by running down a ball on the track and taking away extra bases.

Team Arkansas/Kansas
2021 SS Reece McWilliams (Little Rock Catholic HS, AR) has a long-levered frame with strength at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds. On Saturday, he went 2-for-2 with a double, triple and two RBIs. That made him 4-for-5 with three RBIs on the week. He also made a nice backhand play at shortstop and showed his arm strength from the hole.

Team Canada
2021 RHP Louis Philippe Langevin (ABC Academie, QC), a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder, worked three innings Saturday, locating his fastball down in the zone and to both sides of the plate. He was up to 87 and got swings and misses on it. He also showed a breaking ball with 11/5 shape and downward action. He has some feel for the changeup. Langevin works under control with minimal effort and the arm is clean in the back.

Team Carolinas
2021 C Justin Lehman (Nation Ford HS, SC) picked up his second hit in as many games, a sharp single to left field, on Saturday. The left-handed hitter also produced a loud out on a fly ball deep to the left-field wall and showed an ability to work deep into counts and see a lot of pitches. He also continued to show high-level skills behind the plate and a strong arm, throwing behind and getting a guy at second on a back pick, his second pickoff of the weekend, and consistently having pop times in the low 1.9s between innings and low 2.0s in game.

Team Connecticut
2022 C Brandyn Durand (Bishop Hendricken HS, RI) has a strong, physical frame at 6-foot-2, 205 pounds. He is extremely powerful and runs well for a catcher. He drove an opposite-field triple on a line on Saturday, collecting three RBIs. Defensively, his throws are on a line with carry.

Team Florida
2021 SS Jake Mummau (Palm Harbor HS, FL) jumped all over two of the top 2022 arms in the country from Georgia. The athletic and projectable shortstop went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and an RBI, turning around 92 and 93 mph fastballs. Defensively, he stood out with his effortless actions and made several plays at short.

Team Georgia
2022 RHP/3B Dylan Lesko (Buford HS, GA) showed why he’s one of the top arms in the country Saturday, easily delivering a 90-92 fastball with late jump. The 6-foot-2, well-proportioned righty pounded the strike zone with three pitches, which included a low-70s curveball and an advanced changeup at 77-79. Lesko is a competitor and had no fear in establishing his fastball in his outing.

Team Illinois
2021 C Ty Batusich (Joliet West HS, IL) was arguably the top performer all week for Illinois and put an exclamation point on it in his last at-bat against Team Indiana. The 6-foot, 180-pounder jumped all over a fastball for a game-tying three-run home run. He also singled through the right side and was 2-for-2 on the day.
Team Indiana

2021 3B Parker Harrison (Columbus East HS, IN), a 6-foot-1, 195-pounder was 2-for-2 on Saturday with a double and RBI singled. He also made a great play defensively, diving to his left and throwing a runner out at second from his knees.

Team Iowa/Minnesota/Nebraska
2021 OF Kade Peloquin (Stillwater HS, MN) was 2-for-4 Saturday witn a single, triple and RBI against Team Wisconsin. The 5-foot-9, 160-pounder is a prototypical leadoff hitter with a the ability to see pitches and consistently square baseballs up. His defense is also noteworthy and he ran several balls down in the outfield with an above-average first step, shrinking the gaps and collecting tough outs for his pitching staff.

Team Louisiana
2021 SS Peyton Stovall (Haughton HS, LA) finished off an outstanding week with a strong performance on Saturday, collecting three RBIs and a loud triple into the right-center gap against Team Texas.

Team Massachusetts
2021 RHP Nick Gleason (Wilbraham and Monson Academy, MA), a 5-foot-9, 150-pounder cruised through his two-inning stint with an 83-84 fastball that has arm-side run. The breaking ball has good shape and sits in the low 70s. He also flashed a 78 mph slider with small shape and has a solid changeup too.

Team Michigan
2021 3B Stephen Kwapis (Hackett Catholic Prep, MI) continued his hot pace at the plate this weekend. Entering Saturday as the lead off hitter, he smoked the third pitch of the game over the left field fence. He followed that up with an RBI double down the left field line and finished the day 2-for-3.

Team Mid-Atlantic
2021 C Tanner Clements (Matoaca HS, VA) had the hit of the weekend in his last at-bat, when he launched a two-strike, two-out grand slam to left in the bottom of the seventh to give Mid-Atlantic a walk-off 10-9 win against Missouri. He also had a walk and stolen base in his first plate appearance.

Team Missouri
2021 RHP RHP Austin Young (Ft. Zumwalt East HS, MO), who stands at 6-foot-6, 180 pounds, sat 85-87 mph in his two innings of work. He allowed one hit and struck out two. He showed a breaking ball at 62-64 mph with 12-to-6 action and good deception with arm speed. Young’s tall and slender build and arm action would suggest increases in the months to come.

Team Nevada
2022 OF Grayson Grinsell (Reno HS, NV) is projectable with loose, flexible actions in his 6-foot, 150-pound frame. He throws from a ¾ slot with solid carry from the outfield. At the plate, he has natural whip his bat, providing sneaky power. He made consistently quality contact in left-on-left matchups, as well as against righties. In his last at-bat, he tripled and was 4.25 down the line on the turn.

Team New Jersey
2022 IF Christopher Maldonado (Seton Hall Prep HS, NJ) solidified his status as New Jersey’s top talent among the position players at the Future Games with an impressive day at the plate. It started with his prestigious round of pregame BP, where he effortlessly sent multiple over the wall. Then, in game play, he barreled a lineout deep in the right-center field gap and crushed a triple in nearly the same spot. All week long, Maldonado was moving outfielders with his loud outs, but Saturday he broke through with a knock for himself. The tools play up as a middle of the order type bat and he has shown that he plays fast enough to stick in the middle infield.

Team New York
After a slow start over the first two games, 2021 MIF Marcus Smith (All Hallows HS, NY) was able to show off multiple facets of his game against Team New Jersey. He went 2-for-2 with a single against a 93 mph fastball and quickly followed that with a stolen base. Later in the game, he hit a two-run home run to the opposite field.

Team Ohio
2022 OF Devin Taylor (LaSalle HS, OH) put on a show in BP and carried that over into game play. The young left-handed hitter launched four home runs in batting practice, one of which hit halfway up the light pole in right-field. In game, he caught barrels in both at bats, highlighted by a bases clearing triple.

Team Oklahoma
2021 1B/LHP Payton Tolle (Bethany HS, OK) is an imposing 6-foot-6, 220-pound southpaw that had previously topped at out 83. On Saturday, he was sitting 85-89 with heavy aciton. He punched out two and mixed in a slider and changeup.

Team Pennsylvania
2021 RHP Trey Yesavage (Boyertown HS, PA) sat comfortably at 89-92 over three innings while striking out four. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder creates tilt on his fastball with late life down in the zone. He also flashed the ability to work off his fastball out of the same high-3/4 arm slot with a curveball at 76-77 and a slider at 79-81.

Team Select
2021 OF Adam Moser (Fairview HS, CO), a 6-foot-1, 190-pound right-handed hitter, concluded his Future Games by putting all of his tools on full display. A high-end athlete (6.6 runner) with a strong frame and quick hands, Moser keeps it simple at the plate, allowing his raw athleticism to take over. He has a balanced set-up with a slight bend in his knees, before the hands load back and whip the barrel through the zone with explosiveness at the point of contact. Moser takes a gap-to-gap approach with a mostly level barrel path and drives the ball with ease. He put it all together Saturday when he launched not one, but two triples deep into the gaps, went for it all on the second as he tried to complete the rare inside-the-park home run, but was thrown out at home.

Team Tennessee
2021 RHP/3B Jay Dill (Dayton HS, TN) has a great frame with projection at 6-foot-5, 212 pounds. His fastball sat comfortably 88-91 with good life and spin. He paired it with a 78-82 slider with cutter action and a chanegup. The slider became sharper as the game progressed with hard velo and late, downward bite. Occasionally, he mixed in his changeup at 69-71 mph. He tossed two innings and struck out two. He has a quick, electric arm and room to fill out.

Team Texas
2021 RHP Alec Grossman (Lake Travis HS, TX) made his second appearance Saturday and was even more impressive than the first game. He has an explosive frame and is able to repeat his ferocious arm speed. A perfect inning came via swinging strikeouts, as a 90-92 fastball jumped out of his hand with occasional run. He also mixed in a power curveball at 77-80 with 11/5 shape and late, aggressive bite. The curveball was thrown for a lot strikes.

Team Wisconsin
2021 OF Liam Stumpf (Mineral Point HS, WI) put his offensive skill set on display in Wednesday’s workout, but translated it to the game on Saturday with a five RBI day. He had a triple and double, propelling the Badger State to a win over Minnesota/Iowa.
