2018 UIL Team Preview: La Grange

PBR Texas Staff

The Texas high school season kicks off on February 19, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 26, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

SEASON PREVIEW

La Grange Leopards return an impressive amount of pitching depth with six returnees, in addition to five returning position players. RHP Mason Muras has a chance to be the top pitcher in the conference as he leads the Leopards' deep pitching staff. The athletic, speedy 2B Travis Ferley, coming off a 2017 campaign that saw him steal 28 bases, will continue to be a menace on the basepaths as well as exceptional defender up the middle. Defensively C Noah Blackwell has shown he knows how to handle a pitching staff and commands respect from baserunners behind the dish. Bringing the power to the lineup will be 3B Tyler Johnson. Standing 6-foot-4, 220-pounds the corner infielder was limited in 2017 due to a broken collarboone, but Coach Robert Barber is excited to see what he can with a clean bill of health and a full season ahead of him.
