South Spencer Caps off 3-0 Weekend at HOF Classic



Jasper, IN - South Spencer faced off with Silver Creek in the second to last game of the Hall of Fame Baseball Classic on Saturday. South Spencer jumped out to an early lead and a late rally by Silver Creek wasn't enough to make up the difference.

South Spencer put up two runs in botht he first and second innings. In the first Daivd Thompson (2012) and Tyler Hermann (2012) both walked to lead off the game. Thompson scored on a ground out from Jared Lauer (2012) and Hermann scored on an error. In the second after a double by starting pitcher Tyler Schneider (2015) out runners on second and third Thompson came through with two out single to left field.

In the fifth South Spencer added three more runs, again with two outs. With runners on first and second Charleston Roberts (2013) stepped up and ripped a ball off of the right field wall for a triple scoring two. Walker Franklin (2012) then doubled home Roberts putting South Spencer up 7-0.

Schneider kept the Silver Creek bats quiet for the first five innings, allowing just three two hits in the first five frames.

In the sixth Silver Creek finally got to Schneider. With two outs Lucas Barnett (2013) singled in Silver Creek's first run. After Schneider hit the next batter to load the bases he would get replaced by Lauer. Luke McIntyre (2012) and Matt Hawn (2012) hit back to back RBI singles, but Lauer was able to get the next batter to ground out ending the threat.

In the seventh South Spencer added an insurance run with a sac fly from Ryan Duvall (2013). Lauer gave up a leadoff single in the bottom half of the inning, but got a double play and a groundout to close out the win.

South Spencer finished 3-0 during the Hall of Fame Baseball Classic, also defeating New Haven (6-2) and Evansville Harrison (7-6).
