2021

’21 Braiden Galvin, MIF (Coronado)

Stocky, 5-foot-8 155, Galvin has a compact frame and demonstrates capable infield actions throwing from a ¾ slot. He shows a feel for multiple angle throws on double play feeds as well as slow rollers. Present strength and footwork lend better to second base.  At the plate, his simple load and rhythmic hands create consistent contact in a solid swing plane with a high finish. Growth and development could provide an ability to play all three infield positions.

’21 Dylan Dirig, 3B (Desert Oasis)

Wiry, 5-foot-10 155, Dirig has reliable infield actions that will provide some value in an ability to catch as well as play the corners. He has the arm strength to play third base and actions will likely play up at the reaction position. Solid footwork and high ¾ arm action provide plenty of carry across the diamond.  In the box, he maintains a backside power type approach, releasing his top hand on contact. Present contact leads to gap type power but weight and strength gains could provide future power potential.

’21 Julian Molto-Herrera, 3B/2B (Bishop Gorman)

Strong, 5-foot-10 170, Molto-Herrera demonstrates solid infield actions and footwork providing him the opportunity to play all three infield spots. His arm strength easily plays on the left side of the diamond and he has a feel for multiple angle throws and feeds. Growth and development make a future move to second or third base imminent. As a hitter, he has a nice combination of strength and bat speed with consistent quality contact. He maintains a slight uphill plane to his swing that may realize power down the line.

’21 Austin Cates, 3B (Coronado)

Youthful, 6-foot 205, Cates has a thick frame with the size and speed that will lend better to first base.  He has solid infield actions that will play up on the right side of the diamond. Present arm strength and carry are enough for the “hot corner” but will be a larger advantage at first.  Offensively, he hits off of a narrow base for someone his size with a “hansdy” uphill swing that creates frequent topspin. Future adjustments allowing him to tap into his core strength could provide the ability to hit for more consistent power down the road

’21 Ozzy Zawislak, SS (SLAM)

Stocky, 5-foot-10 185, Zawislak is a thick bodied corner infielder type guy that gives you everything he has got.  He displays deliberate infield actions, throwing from a ¾ slot with solid carry across the diamond.  He has a feel for double play feeds and throws on the run. At the plate, he relies on strength over bat speed in a mostly pull side approach. He starts with an open stance, striding closed and collapsing a bit on his backside.

’21 Jarrett Kenyon, SS (Coronado)

Lean, 6-foot 135, Kenyon has a projectable athletic build with a loose naturalness to everything he does. He is a capable infielder, but his athleticism may be better suited to the outfield. He throws naturally from a ¾ to low ¾ slot that makes plays on the run and to his left easy to complete. At the plate, he is rhythm hitter that has not tapped into his lower half.  He has loose somewhat whippy swing with good barrel release. Size and strength gains will be essential to him making stronger contact.

’21 JonLuke Hobdy, 2B (SLAM)

Projectable, 5-foot-9 130, Hobday is loose and twitchy. He flashes good infield actions, but present weight and strength jeopardize body control. He has a feel for multiple angle throws and plays on the run. Present arm speed lends to more arm strength down the road.  At the plate, he has a quick bat the he whips through the zone, utilizing a leg kick trigger and active hands. He made consistent contact and realized solid impact.

’21 Aric Anderson 3B (Palo Verde)

Athletic, 5-foot-11 160, Anderson has an athletic build with room for weight and strength gains. Infield actions will lend better to reaction corner positions. He displayed limited feel for double play feeds in the middle and plays on the run. Anderson’s future looks to be behind the plate.  In the box, he maintains a consistent middle of the field approach with simple swing mechanics. He repeats his swing and thus makes consistent quality contact. He looks to hit for average over power at this point but could surprise with some sneaky pull-side power in the future.

2022

’22 Tai Nguyen, 1B (Bishop Gorman)

Strong, 6-foot-1 205, Nguyen has a well-built body with present strength. He runs well for his size and may be able to play some outfield.  At first base, he has developing infield actions and footwork around the bag. He displays an understanding for multiple angle throws on double play feeds and plays on bunts. As a hitter, he sets up with high hands loading to an off-shoulder power position with good separation on stride. He has a solid combination of strength and bat speed with good barrel release that makes it easy to see the future power potential. He displayed the ability to drive the ball to all fields.

‘22 Tyler Avery, 1B (Bishop Gorman)

Large frame, 6-foot-2 205, Avery has reliable first base actions and a feel for footwork around the bag on coverages following double play feeds. His long ¾ arm action slows his exchange on feeds but arm strength makes up for some of the delay. At the end of the day, his bat will carry him.  He maintains a prototypical power approach, setting up with high hands with a naturally lofted swing and serious power potential. He manages the length in his swing making consistent quality contact.

’22 Parker Vint, 3B (Coronado)

Sturdy, 6-foot-2 185, Vint is a physical corner infielder with the athleticism and arm strength to become special. He throws from a natural ¾ slot making plays on the run and slow rollers easy to finish. He has a feel for multiple angle throws moving to his backhand as well as double play feeds. At the plate, he has a solid combination of strength and bat speed. He uses his lower half effectively, staying in his legs to enhance his power.  He maintains mostly pull side approach, making consistent hard contact. Vint looks to be a prototypical third baseman, middle of the order bat.

’22 Mason Neville, 1B (Palo Verde)

Projectable, 6-foot-2 175, Neville has an athletic build with long levers.  He has the athleticism to play the outfield as well as first base. He has a natural feel for first base with developing footwork around the bag. Speed and arm strength could be waisted at first base for they lend better to the outfield. At the plate, he hits off a narrow base for his size with a naturally lofted swing. He has a “whippy” bat with good barrel release that provides pull-side power. It is easy to see power to all fields in the future and the potential to be a middle of the order bat.

’22 Kyle Kiernan, MIF (Coronado)

Athletic, 5-foot-10 145, Kiernan has room for weight and strength gains. He displays solid infield actions with a feel for all the plays. He has a quick transition on double play feeds, maintaining a quick arm that provides ample carry across the diamond as well. Kiernan possesses the ability to play all three infield spots, but offensively will profile better up the middle. At the plate, he hits off his backside, striding to a flat foot with a stiff front side. The mostly pull side approach and swing plane lend to fly balls with limited carry.  Kiernan has good feel for the barrel, making consistent contact.

2023

’23 Justin Kania, 2B (Bishop Gorman)

Justin Kania, 5-foot-6 120, is a developing athlete. His youth makes size and strength gains imminent. He has capable infield actions that will polish with time. Kania throws from lower ¾ slot, relying on his core strength to provide the carry for his throws. He has a feel for ground ball footwork and presently what it takes for him to complete plays. At the plate, weight and strength gains will provide stability to a solid approach. He maintains a solid swing plane and makes consistent quality contact.
