Season Outlook
This spring, the 2017 Stonewall Longhorns will look build on their state tournament appearance this fall. Returning seven starting position players and four arms that threw over 15 innings a piece from a year ago, the Longhorns will have no shortage of experience. Joining the returners are a few young newcomers who have a chance to make an immediate impact this spring.

On the mound, junior right-hander Landon Grissom will lead the way. The whippy armed pitcher will run it up to the upper 80’s and feature a sharp slider as well.  Joining Grissom in the starting rotation will likely be big bodied left-handed senior Christian Morgan, and junior righty Cayman Watkins.  Ty Humphers could also pitch big innings for the Longhorns in his freshman campaign with continued development.

Offensively, the Longhorns will look to three returners in the middle of the order to do most of the damage. Seniors Ryan York and Dustin Hays along with junior Ethan Jackson will look to add to their output from last fall to lead Stonewall to Class A State Championship.  Newcomer Brady Barton could also contribute in a big way offensively  as he begins his sophomore season.

Defensively, the Longhorns will be best behind the plate and on the infield. Jackson is a good receiver of the baseball and posses the arm to shut down most running attacks from behind the dish. From left to right, Bryce Holland, Walkins, and Barton will make up a very solid infield. Though very versatile, York will likely be a key piece mainly in the outfield for Stonewall.
