TEXAS-  A look at a strong group of shortstops from around the state who's stock rising before the season came to an abrupt halt.

Josh Bostick, SS/RHP, McKinney, 2020
Howard College Recruit. Was likely one of the best kept secrets in the state this spring. 6’4 200 with pro tools all over the place. Electric arm up to 95 and had just started pitching. Easy actions with plenty of bat speed and aggression in the swing. Hard nosed short-stop mentality. Outstanding makeup. Very bright future ahead of him.

Conner Weigman, SS, Bridgeland, 2022
Might have the chance to play both at the next level given his ability to swing the bat. A stoic 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, the uncommitted infielder looked noticeably stronger to start the spring, and his right-handed stroke was aided with a boost of power. With more repetitions and at-bats on the diamond, look for Weigman to make quick adjustments in the future, and be followed closely by college recruiters from both sports.

Cade Merka, SS, Argyle, 2020
We have seen Merka a ton over the past couple of years as he has been an every day starter for two State Championship teams for the Eagles. Merka moves easy at shortstop and displays the footwork, hands, and arm strength that should allow him to be an impact player in the SEC for Texas A&M. Ran a 7.11 60-yard dash, put up a 91 mph exit velocity, and was 86 mph across the field from SS

Blake Brown, Lake Creek, SS, 2023
Positional Profile: SS/2B
Body: 5-foot-10, 160 pounds
Hit: RH. Tall, athletic, open setup with a short stride and explosive lower half. Fast bat speed, confident approach, level bat path through the zone hitting balls from gap-to-gap with fluid rhythm.
Power: 81 mph exit velocity off the tee
Arm: RH. INF-79 mph. Short, quick arm swing from multiple slots with good accuracy.
Defense: Soft hands with quick footwork and a clean exchange.
Run: 7.20 runner in the 60
