Summer Kickoff I.D. - Prospect Analysis - Middle INF

Cameron Burgess 2B / RHP / Waccamaw, SC / 2020

Medium profile with broad, slopped shoulders and strong lower half. Not a burner (7.81 sixty time) but showed good 1st step quickness and lateral movement in the infield. Balanced stance at the plate with the hands set early off the back foot. A high leg kick times the swing. Showed the ability to lag the barrel at times. Top hand was quick out of the zone pulling the barrel across the ball at contact point. Slightly lofted bat path produced a line drive round of BP with pull side tendencies. Good footwork on approach to ground balls, keeping the head quiet. Loses feel for the glove at point of catch trying to get the ball out quickly. Avg. arm strength will be able to make routine plays when his feet are set.

Jack Peeler SS / 1B / York Comprehensive , SC / 2022

5-10, 165lb frame with upside. Current build suggests additional strength and mass possible with age. At present there are good athletic actions that will be more refined with additional strength and maturation. LHH with a taller stance, slightly open, just outside the shoulders. Medium/high leg kick timing mechanism was inconsistent with the timing. Simple hand load and strong launch position to a positive attack angle. Aggressive to ground balls with choppy footwork and naturally quick hands working through the ball with consistent throws on target with avg to slightly above avg carry present.

Peyton Reel 2B / 3B / York Comprensive, SC / 2020

Slight frame with limited projection, has started to fill out since our last look at him. 2B/3B profile with enough athleticism to make a serviceable defender. Simple offensive approach with a relaxed stance and feet outside the shoulders. A short stride lands softly and simply turns the barrel just before launch. Consistent timing and good bat to ball skills in a round of BP that peppered the L screen and showed consistent hard contact in the middle of the field. Fluid actions, working through ground balls with controlled approach, smooth transitions, and follow through to a H3Q release with developing arm strength. Good feel for the glove and soft hands. Limited range will need to improve at the edges in order to stick at 2B.

Ryley Stout 2B / OF / York Comprehensive, SC / 2022

5-4, 110lbs with square shoulders and slender extremities. Slight through the upper body and mildly stronger in the lower half. LHH with a taller stance that is open slightly. Landed closed and cut off the hip rotation at times. Was inconsistent with the timing and feel for the barrel through contact point. Swing maximizes the results for his size and present strength. Good lower half working to and through ground balls. Will need to improve core strength to keep his upper body under control. Loud hands have a lot of movement before the ball gets to him and he has a tendency to play catch up in order to over come a slightly out of control fielding position. Longer release produced accurate throws with limited carry.
