FRANKLIN, Wis. - Two out of the past three years a Michigan participant in the Super 60 has been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft. Anthony Migliaccio, Saborn Campbell and Luke Leto all hope to be the next after showing off their skills on Sunday at Prep Baseball Report’s 19th annual event held for the first time at the MOSH Performance Center south of Milwaukee.

“The event was all I thought it would be and more,” related Campbell. “I really enjoyed being around top-level athletes while being able to showcase my skills for a number of scouts. The event was run extremely well and everything seemed to flow.”

Leto, a senior at Portage Central, had the same feelings.

“I thought that the event was great,” Leto said. “It was a lot of fun playing with guys that I have met throughout playing baseball. The highlights were just being able to attend the event and getting to play with kids that I know.”

Migliaccio, a Detroit Country Day high school teammate of Campbell, was happy to be part of the activities that featured a field of  74 players representing 32 states and the Canadian province of British Columbia performing before approximately 80 MLB scouts, a number that was down from previous years due to a limit of no more than three per major league team because of covid.

“I had a great time at the Super 60,” Migliaccio said. “There is nothing better than working out with some of the best players in the country and learning what everyone is like.”

The Vanderbilt commit made an impression running a 6.64 time in the 60 to go along with a 90 exit velocity, 80 catching velo and 2.01 pop time.

“I felt like I ran really well, especially as a catcher and outfielder.” explained the 13th-rated 2021 catcher in the country.

Shooter Hunt, National Crosschecker for PBR, came away impressed with the 6-1 195-pounder.

“A switch-hitting 6.6-runner with present athleticism to play multiple positions,” Hunt said of the 154th-rated high school senior in the nation. “Migliaccio took solid rounds from both sides of the plate. He was balanced in his approach with some present strength and there is more power on the way.”

Leto, the second-ranked Michigan 2021, showed off his all-around game with a 56.85 clocking in the 60 along with 89 infield velocity and 94 exit velocity.

“It was a great opportunity to be able to be able to showcase my skills in front of the scouts,” pointed out the 6-2 200-pound LSU commit who is rated eighth nationally among 2021 shortstops.

Campbell, a 6-1 190-pounder, drew attention from those looking on with a 6.66 time in the 60, 86 outfield velo and 90 exit velocity.

“It was great to have a lot of attention from the scouts at this high-level showcase,” noted the top-ranked outfielder in Michigan, a Stanford commit. “It’s always a blessing to be able to perform for scouts and being able to chase my dreams of playing professional baseball.”

With 22 first-round Major League Baseball Draft selections and 25 in the second round from the Super 60 since 2003, the Michigan trio hopes to follow in the shoes of the most recent MLB picks from the state in Werner Blakely, a fourth-round choice by the Angles last year, and William English, a fifth-round selection by the Angels in 2018.

“I did talk to some scouts and it was great to get some feedback and be able to talk to them in the future,” Migliaccio said.

Campbell also has had interaction with pro scouts as the dream to play in the big leagues continues.

“I've been fortunate to have several scouts reach out prior to the event, so only a few new ones contacted me after,” Campbell noted. “I'm always honored to speak with them and answer their questions but, out of respect to them, I'd prefer to keep those conversations private.”

Blakely, one of three Michigan participants last year along with Nick Chittum and Logan Wood, was one of four players from the Super 60 to be taken in the five-round 2020 MLB Draft, while nine participants were selected during the 2019 draft. More than 300 players have been chosen in the draft since the first Super 60 in 2003.
