Team Illinois: Final Day Recap

The final day of the PBR Future Games Midwest saw Team Illinois matchup against Team Wisconsin at 11:30 am, in the final game of the event. Illinois came out on top with a 4-2 victory thanks to some impressive pitching performances and a couple of key extra base hits.

RHP Kyle Rossy (Glenbard West, 2022) got things started on the mound for Team Illinois. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound, well-proportioned, strong, right-hander set the tone out of the gates. In his two innings of work Rossy did not allow a baserunner and struck out two. Rossy has a clean, loose, live arm and his fastball jumps out of the hand and through the zone. Rossy sat 88-90 mph, touching 91 in his start. Rossy has a chance to be one of the top power arms in the state.

LHP Brady Banker (Carmel Catholic, 2022), RHP Elias Hachem (Mount Carmel, 2022) and RHP Ryan Bibb (Mascoutah, 2022) were the other three arms for Team Illinois who helped lead them to victory. 

Banker is a smooth operating left-hander who showed a three-pitch mix and ran his fastball up to 86 mph multiple times. Banker struck out three in his two innings of work. 

Hachem is an imposing figure on the mound, listed at 6-foot-7, 235-pounds and possesses one of the highest ceilings in the class. Hachem touched 87 mph with his fastball, sitting 83-86 and also showed two developing off-speed offerings that should only continue to improve as he grows into his advanced frame. 

Bibb, spent all week as a position player for Team Illinois but he showed plenty of intrigue in his one inning stint on the mound. Bibb, who has been 94 mph across the infield in the past, sat comfortably at 85-86 mph on the mound. Bibb also showed feel for pitching, changing up his timing and leg-lifts to home plate creating some deception to his delivery. Bibb went 1-2-3 in his inning of work.

Offensively, Team Illinois got contributions up-and-down the lineup. OF Josh Outlaw (Maine West, 2022), a fluid left/left athlete, was the only player to record two hits on the day; both line-drive singles that jumped off the barrel. Outlaw took some of the more competitive at-bats on the weekend and should be a high-follow 2022 outfielder moving forward. 

CIF Luke Adams (Hinsdale Central, 2022) is a physical right-handed hitter with power to the opposite gap and he showed it off once again on Tuesday. Adams drove a deep triple to right-center field that short hopped the wall. Adams was arguably the most impressive bat on Team Illinois throughout the three games.

C Grant Pohlman (Carrollton, 2022) and INF Estevan Moreno (Montini Catholic, 2022) both lined doubles down the left-field line and scored a run. Moreno also collected an RBI on his two-base hit.

C Will Plattner (Glenwood, 2022), OF Brandon Rogers (Brother Rice, 2022) and UTIL Luka Radicevich (Joliet Catholic, 2022) all collected hits in the win. 

Plattner got a barrel on a pitch middle-in and lined it over the shortstops head. The 6-foot, 185-pound backstop also impressed behind the plate in the final game; routinely blocking a variety of tough pitches and showed a strong, accurate arm out of the crouch. 

Rogers, one of the top athletes in Illinois, caused havoc on the bases after he reached on a line-drive single to right-center field. Rogers has game-changing ability and puts a ton of pressure on the defense. 

Radicevich, is a do-it-all prospect that started on the mound in the first game of the event and played all over the diamond throughout the three games. Radicevich finished the final game 1-for-2 with a walk, stolen base and run scored.
