Team Pacific Northwest - Game 3 Recap

Dan Jurik
Scouting Director - Pacific Northwest

Game 3 for Pacific Northwest was another back and forth contest against a physical and athletic group from Arizona.

The contest extended to 8 total innings in order to accommodate some additional pitching and hitting on the opponents but the score remained final after 7 innings were complete.

While it was a slower start on offense compared to games 1 & 2, PNW pushed across an inning in T1 thanks to a leadoff walk from ‘25 INF Davonn Abaga (O’Dea, WA) who came around after a SB and fly out to score on a 6-3 from ‘25 OF Derek Thompson (Tumwater, WA)

The bats went quiet for a bit after that but then ‘25 OF Matthew Manjooran (Camas, WA) continued to have a big week as he belted a Grand Slam HR over the LF fence to clear the bases and push across 4 runs for PNW. The GS was his 2nd hit on the day as he added a 2B in his first AB and scored on a passed ball. Manjooran really got comfortable at the plate after G1 and tallied hits in 4 straight ABs to end the event.

In addition to Manjooran, PNW got hits from ‘25 Connor Parry (Sherwood, OR) and ‘25 Riley Sanoy (Puyallup, WA).

The Grand Slam made it a 6-5 ball game in favor of PNW and after some clutch pitching performances that score would remain after 7 complete innings. Thus making the PNW 3-0 on the week.

In the added 8th inning, AZ pushed across some runs with 2 outs to make the score 8-6.

Pitching Recap

In Game 3, we turned the ball back over to the arms from Game 1 and adjusted innings based on how long their previous outing was.

‘26 RHP Sean Evans (Tahoma, WA) started with the ball and continued to show quality stuff with a willingness to attack with secondaries more frequently the 2nd time out there. Overall, his combination of size, athleticism and arm speed gives him a considerably high ceiling and he’ll be a strong follow in that 2026 class.

‘26 RHP Deegan Quesenberry (Kamiakin, WA) bumped up the workload to 2 innings in this outing and was sharper this time around while asked to get 6 outs. The FB velo still held 84-86 while his command and shape on the SL was a bit more refined after getting acclimated to the conditions. Another exciting arm to watch in what is shaping up to be an ultra talented class for Washington.

‘25 Adam Jay (Tahoma, WA) did his thing yet again with 2 great innings of work while racking up 3 strikeouts. The mature southpaw is ruthlessly efficient at missing barrels and inducing weak contact with his arsenal and proved to be highly effective against quality bats. The radar gun only tells a part of the story with Jay and getting to see him live multiple times really highlights how talented he is.

‘25 OF/LHP Slater de Brun (Summit, OR) A position player by trade, de Brun did get the chance to show off his arm strength and make an appearance on the mound. FB topped at 88 with CB at 70-71 with the ball coming from a short, tight arm action

‘25 OF/RHP Derek Thompson (Tumwater, WA) had another great showing with a FB/SL combination in a relief role. Escaped a big jam after inheriting a bases loaded situation and then followed it up with a solid inning to help preserve the lead and ultimately lock up the win after 7 innings.

‘25 INF/RHP Davonn Abaga (O’Dea, WA) jumped on the mound for the 8th inning in what was his first appearance on the mound of the event and showed off the versatility. FB ranged 82-85 from a short arm path with hand speed out front at release. Also shaped a quality breaking ball at 68-70 with sweeping action
