Tennessee Class of 2015 Rankings Released

By Doug Hall
Tennessee Director of Scouting

Though our first event in Tennessee took place on August 24, we had the opportunity to see many players from the 2015 class during the summer travel ball season.  That continued this fall as we continued to scout tournaments in the state while scouts from the Prep Baseball Report staff  also had the opportunity to see some players in the class compete against high-level competition at the WWBA Championship in Jupiter, Florida..  Thus, we release our initial Class of 2015 player rankings.  The initial rankings include our top 25 players in the state and will be updated and expanded over the coming weeks to include the top 50.  In addition, we will continue to update and expand the rankings over the next several months.

Clarksville RHP Donny Everett sits at the top of the class.  The 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-hander is one of the premier power pitchers in the country with a fastball that routinely sits in the 92-95 mph range, touching 96 on occasion.  Everett’s best secondary pitch is his sharp 79-82 mph slider that dives away hard from right-handed hitters.  Everett, a Vanderbilt recruit, will certainly be pitching in front of numerous pro scouts on a regular basis this spring.

Ravenwood 3B/RHP Bryce Denton occupies the No. 2 spot.  The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Vanderbilt recruit shows all the tools with speed, arm strength, and can flat out hit while displaying power as well.  He finished last spring with a whopping 16 doubles, eight triples, and 10 home runs while racking up 62 RBIs.  Denton also shows ability on the mound with a fastball that reaches into the high 80’s.

Lexington 6-foot-3, 175-pound LHP Ethan Small checks in at No. 3.  We saw the lanky Mississippi State recruit in his second outing in Jupiter where his fastball sat mostly 87-88 mph and touched 90 on a few occasions.  In his first outing at Jupiter, two days before we saw him, Small’s fastball reportedly touched 93 mph.  He features a mid-70’s changeup with good arm-side fade and a 68-70 mph curveball, and his upside is obvious.
