Texas All-State Games: Position Player Preview

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

WACO, TX - On Sunday, November 4, some of the top talent from around the state of Texas will gather at Baylor University to compete in the PBR Texas All-State Games. This is an invite only event for players in the 2020-2022 classes. This will be the biggest and best event of the fall, and is LOADED with uncommitted underclassman. Whether you're looking for athletes in the middle of the field, or strong corner bats, this will be a can't miss event.

 Position Players

Several players from the PBR Future Games will be in attendance, including 2020 OF Elijah Nunez (Arlington Martin HS) who has quickly become a household name in national baseball circles. The TCU commit can go get it in the outfield, and has a natural feel to hit to go with plus speed. You might not see three players with better energy than 2020 SS Stanley Tucker, and 2020 SS Thomas Schreck, and 2020 OF Tyler Douglas (John Cooper HS). Tucker and Schreck both play for a talented Sliders team and these guys can really pick it in the middle of the field. Douglas is a left-handed hitter that does everything aggressive.

2020 C Robert Antonetti (Grapevine HS) is the Matt Stairs of North Texas, aka “Professional Hitter”. The lefty put on a show at the Future Games during BP, and every time we see him play, he doubles and drives in a run.

2021 OF Tyler Collins (McKinney Boyd HS) has electricity running through his body and is ranked No. 10 in Texas, No. 75 Overall. He runs a 6.68 60-yard dash, and can turn around a fastball with the best of them. Collins hit at the top of the order last year as a freshman for McKinney Boyd, and the kid is a gamer.

2020 SS Jorge Figueroa (Southlake Carroll HS) anchored the defense of the UIL 6A State Champion Southlake Carroll Dragons last season. Figueroa is an elite defender with big time baseball instincts.

2021 SS Hector Garcia Jr. (Seven Lakes HS) has some of the most polished actions of any sophomore that we have seen this fall.

2020 C/OF Ben Dukes (Houston Memorial HS) is a projectable, athletic, left-handed hitter that is committed to Rice and hits in the middle of the order for Coach York’s Mustangs.

2021 C Christopher Bernal (McAllen HS) is a strong backstop with an ultra fast exchange and power from the right side of the plate.

2020 SS Micah Walker (South Houston HS) showed off slick actions to go with an aggressive hack at the Houston Fall I.D.

2020 SS Cameron Yadon (Bridge City HS) was a standout performer this summer at the South Texas Underclass Games. He is super-athletic with a high-waisted, long-limbed frame and the ability to play multiple positions.

2020 OF Garrison Rice (Hebron HS) was a top prospect from the PBR Limited Series this summer at UH, collecting multiple knocks and showing speed with an athletic, lean-muscular frame.

2021 C Gabriel Herrera (Reagan HS) was a Top Performer this summer at the Sliders Scout Day and the South Texas Underclass Games. He has a short, quick arm stroke with a top velocity from the crouch of 75 mph and pop times between 1.92-2.22.

2020 C Scott Siebenthall (King HS) is a young backstop that was a Top Prospect from the Corpus Christi Open in September. At 6-foot, 170-pounds, he still has room to develop physically, and has large, strong hands.

2020 SS Alec Atkinson comes from a strong high school program at Katy HS and was a Top Performer from the Houston Preseason I.D. last January.

2020 OF Cole Smajstrla (Pearland HS) will be a solid addition to a recruiting class, and quietly goes about his business on the field. A 7.0 runner right now, with athleticism and arm strength (86 mph), this guy can hit with advanced feel for the barrel and sneaky pop (90 mph exit velocity).

2021 1B Daylan Pena is just one of the talented hitters from Veterans Memorial HS. We got a chance to see the bopper in the UIL State Semifinal game at Dell Diamond in June.

2020 1B/RHP Hunter Reid (Plano Senior HS) hit in the middle of the order for a strong Plano Senior team last season. The right-handed hitter has real strength at contact to go with gap power.

2021 C Nick Lazzara (Dallas Jesuit) is one of the top bats in the sophomore class. The switch hitter has rhythm and bat speed from both sides of the plate.

2021 SS Ty Johnson and 2020 OF Sam Hunt (Marcus HS) are both expected to impact the lineup this year at Marcus HS. Each of them were standout performers from the DFW Underclass Trials this summer.

2020 SS/RHP Carson Ozmer (Guyer HS) projects as a power hitting infielder, as he showed a quality hack with juice at the North Texas Underclass Games (94 Exit Velo). On the mound, he was 84-87 mph with a late breaking curveball at 73-75  mph.

2020 1B/RHP Dylan Russo (Keller HS) has plenty of upside to go with his natural feel to hit. The right-handed hitter has great rhythm and loose hands, and is consistently on time, and on the barrel. He has also made strides on the mound this fall, getting up to 85 and 86.

2020 C Cole Ketzner (Magnolia HS) is a lot of fun to be around. The right-handed hitter comes from a strong offensive program at Magnolia HS, and his Hunter Pence team absolutely raked this summer at the PBR Limited Series. Ketzner has added a leg kick this fall and demolished baseballs at the Hunter Pence Scout Day.
