In today's installment; The MindStrong Project talks about- Goals!

GOALS!

According to Wikipedia the definition of a goal is: A desired result a person or a system envisions, plans and commits to achieve a personal or organizational desired end-point in some sort of assumed development. Many people endeavor to reach goals within a finite time by setting deadlines. In other words, any planning you do for the future regardless of what it is, is a goal.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoyed Thanksgiving. As we begin the holiday season it is very easy to get off a routine and establish poor habits towards your performance. In these moments we need to prioritize properly and understand where our time is being spent. Time away from training, school or any extra curricular activities we take part in are very important for the balance and quality of our life. Understanding this allows us to take peace of mind into the present moment of leaving our daily life and enjoying this part of each year with family and friends.

With that said, as high performers we must also stay focused on the task at hand. This time of year we have finals, sports seasons are transitioning and for most baseball players we know that after the New Year spring is right around the corner. Time can speed up and if we’re not prepared for it we will get lost under the lights of competition. The key ingredient to our confidence is preparation. We must trust the work we have put in to feel confident in the tools our performance demands.

Having the self-awareness to establish goals at certain times of the year are extremely powerful. Right now is a great time to build and sustain those goals. The MindStrong team wants to give you a look into the goal sheets we give to our athletes and hopefully this serves as a strong platform to build on.

Setting a goal always start by writing out the outcome. From the outcome work your way back to the current status you’re at. We have set up a foundation on how to develop S.M.A.R.T goals for you below.

*Example: Outcome throw 84 miles per hour…Currently throw 79 miles per hour.

Now we must figure out our barriers and triggers that stop us from moving forward. This could be lack of sleep, injuries, time, other commitments etc…

Once the vision is created and the current awareness of where you’re at physically or mentally is written down you are able to understand what stands in your way. This allows for a focused and directed process to give you the greatest chance for success. The process is defined as a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end result. Best of luck to all of you and enjoy the holiday season!

In order fill your goal sheet out: Outcome, Current, Barriers, Process.
