Prep Baseball Report Minnesota is excited to team up with- The Mindstrong Project. Our goal in this endeavor is to continue to provide the most up-to-date pertinent information and resources to the baseball community in the state of Minnesota.

Periodically, The Mindstrong Project will be providing content for the Prep Baseball Report Minnesota website; as they continue to work to build human performance through education while building an awareness of how the mind and body work together to sustain a consistent confident approach to game performance.

In this month's installment; The MindStrong Project talks about- Who Are Your Top 5?.

WHO ARE YOUR TOP 5?

Jim Rohn - "You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with"

Who are you surrounded by most? This is a powerful question and it serves for amazing reflection. As humans, we typically end up being a product of our environment. A concept we share about with our teams surrounds the common language of "inside jokes". There is a reason why close friends and small circles have inside jokes that others do not find funny. The chemistry of the group has created an atmosphere that condones the humor which the group has deemed funny. The sense of humor becomes a staple of conversation and helps individuals identify with those around them.

We see this all the time in cultures across many organizations. With the platform shared at The Mindstrong Project, we are involved with many high school and college organizations. For the teams that have lost in the past, it is necessary to shift their perception or communication from the leadership of the team. They will already speak into existence what needs to be consistently changed, or predict a losing season before a game has even been played. The language of the team will showcase disconnect and concern. It becomes a culture of blame and lacks accountability.

On the other hand, winning cultures will communicate through trust and belief in each other. They will have unwavering confidence that is not easily shaken by others opinions. Winning teams speak to each other in acts of courage and vulnerability. They lift each other up and have a servant leadership. The belief that they can accomplish great feats together drives those cultures to establish visions and clarity within their thoughts.

Why is this important to acknowledge those around you? Why is it important to have an awareness of who you are following, and who follows you?

Why? Because these people will ultimately influence your behavior, your attitudes, and your results. Dr. David McClelland of Harvard University did a 25-year study on the characteristics of achievement motivated people. He found that the single most important factor in success is your “reference group.” Your reference group is made up of the people with whom you habitually associate and identify. These are the people with whom you live, work, and interact with on a daily basis.
