The Year in Review: No. 2 7A State Championship

Bentonville used two big innings and one big arm to beat Conway 6-5 in the 7A State Championship Game.

2016 RHP Kasey Ford picked up the win for Bentonville throwing 7 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 6, walking 5 and hitting 3 Conway hitters. Ford showed great competitiveness making big pitching in big spots throughout the game.

Bentonville scored 3 runs in the 2nd and in the 5th to jump out to a 6-1 lead over Conway. Highlighting the runs was a 2 RBI single by 2015 MIF Blake Werner in the 2nd and back to back singles that drove in runs by 2015 OF Paul Rouse and 2016 INF Ben Nordin.

Conway gave its best effort to comeback, chipping away at the lead scoring 2 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th and 1 in the 7th.

This win give Bentonville’s baseball team its’ first state title since 2002, Conway comes up short but with starting 7 underclassmen look for the Wampus Cats to make a return trip soon
