Top Prospect - Milwaukee: Preview

Andy Sroka
Illinois and Wisconsin Assistant Director

Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 14, the PBR Wisconsin staff will host one of its staples along the summer showcase circuit: Top Prospect - Milwaukee. This event is perennially one of the most well-attended, high-interest showcases on our calendar as it gathers the state’s most sought after uncommitted incoming seniors in one place to participate in both a pro-style workout and live gameplay performance.

Coaches, check out the most up-to-date roster HERE.

Registered players, look at which Team you are rostered on HERE.

This PBR Wisconsin showcase will also provide participating prospects with access to unrivaled technologies during and following the event, facilitated by our recently announced partnerships with TrackMan Baseball, Blast Motion, Driveline Baseball, as well as Vizual Edge. You can read more about those partnerships and how they’ll enhance prospects’ own post-event analysis under the ‘Our Partners’ section of this showcase’s info tab.

ROSTER

Last year, over 60 prospects participated in this showcase and over 50 have since committed to play at the next level. Uncharted terrain in 2020 has affected the prep baseball scene too, so we’re seeing more uncommitted incoming senior talent this summer than we would in a typical season. These circumstances have made tomorrow’s roster more robust than we would have expected in a more regular summer.

The 2019 roster featured prospects like OF/RHP Mitchell Alba (Franklin, 2020; Eastern Illinois commit), RHP Nick Cairo (Bradford, 2020; Wisconsin-Whitewater), RHP Carter Endisch (Arrowhead, 2020; Quincy), SS/OF Brady Jurgella (Menasha, 2020; Madison JC), C/1B Thomas Otto (Appleton North, 2020; Wisconsin-Milwaukee), and OF Jacyk Uehling (South Milwaukee, 2020; Northern Illinois) among many, many others.

Tuesday’s roster similarly features some rising and substantial 2021 prospects seeking next-level opportunities, like OF Anthony Gross (Catholic Memorial), a strong and compact athlete with twitch who’s been performing well this summer.

(Anthony Gross, 2/16/20)

2B Nicklas Williams (Union Grove) is another uncommitted name to know ahead of time. He’s earned a reputation as a pure right-handed hitter with a knack for the barrel who profiles well at second base. And one prospect who has skyrocketed his personal prospect status this summer for us is RHP Jacob Kisting (Verona Area); a lean, high-waisted righty who was up to 87 mph at the Badger State Battle with a live arm that projects especially well.

Another high-follow arm we’re excited to see once more is RHP Noah France (Union Grove), who made a huge splash in the preseason when he was up to 89 mph in the winter. His aggressive offspeed combo of slider-changeup really stole our attention, and we’ve yet to see him with this three-pitch mix in-game, so we’re looking forward his outing Tuesday.

(Noah France, 2/16/20)

Athletic 6-foot-3 right-hander Thomas Ellisen has two-way potential as an infielder. He’s an effective mid-80s arm with viable offspeed who swings a loose righty bat and ranges with fluid actions on defense. And while he’s not pitching tomorrow, C Nick Nowak (Waukesha South) also has two-way appeal, though he’s shown especially well as an efficient and dependable backstop with a natural right-handed bat. He and SS/RHP Austin Bestul (Elkhorn) share a dugout in the summers for their travel team, and both performed well at PBR tournaments this past weekend. Bestul is among the top prospects from Wisconsin headed to tomorrow’s event. He’s a high-level athlete who can play shortstop with a rhythmic and easy right-handed bat. LHP/OF Jaden Schwantz (River Falls) is a ranked two-way prospect with a strong build attached to a left/left profile.

OF Leo Falletti (Wilmot) has upside tools – his speed helps him move around the outfield well and he’s built at a strong 5-foot-10, helping him connect with some hard, low-lying line-drive contact.

There will also be a number of prospects from Illinois headed north to The Rock on Tuesday, like LHP Jackson Kent (Lake Park). Built at a strong 6-foot-3, Kent is ranked right around the top-75 in the Illinois 2021 class for his feel arsenal and fastball that was up to 86 mph back in February. Another southpaw, Andrew Cater (Glenbard West), has sinking low-80s stuff that complements his fading changeup well.

A couple Manteno High School prospects will be making the trip up, too: C Jack Snyder and OF Cole Jackson. Snyder has shown quality traits behind the plate as a glove-first backstop with strong hands and wrists that work well in the right-handed batter’s box, too. Jackson has quick feet that work well in the outfield and he swings a short, quick right-handed bat.

RHP Daniel Reischl (Loyola Academy) is another uncommitted Illinois prospect making his way to The Rock who might make some noise at the event – he was up to 87 mph in June with interesting and projectable offspeed enhanced from his lean 6-foot-3 frame.
