PBR South Carolina - Top Prospect Games Quick Hitters

On Saturday 40 players descended on the campus of The College of Charleston and their top notch baseball facility at Patriots Point. The days event took an unfortunate turn after a heavy rain shower crossed over the complex pouring a significant amount of rain on the field. The event was not a total wash however as the first class surface at CofC took the rain and drained beautifully giving the players a chance to compete in live ABs, albeit without a defense.

Here are some performances that our team of scouts took note of...

Evan Stone (OF, Dutch Fork, 2021) - The uncommitted SR sports a lean athletic frame with a skillset that projects at the next level. The high end athlete turned in a 6.52 sixty (laser) and an 88 mph OF velo with accurate throws and plenty of carry. He found the barrel during his live ABs with a sharp line drive to LCF.

Landon Deese (RHP, Buford, 2022)
- Lively arm. Ran the FB up to 87 (2100 rpm), jumping out of the hand and locating at the knees. Complimented it with a sharp 71-74 mph CB (2000 rpm). Large frame carries the 220lbs well and repeats his delivery. Follow.

Landon Sexton (RHP, York Comp, 2022)
- 6 foot 2, 178lb lean frame. Struck out the side in his inning. Showcased good command of an 80 mph FB (1900-2050 rpm) and a 69 mph CB (1915-2050) with depth. Noted ability to manipulate both pitches in and out of the zone and expand with intent. Velo will jump.

Bradleigh Wohlers (SS/RHP, Carolina Forest, 2023)
- Slender frame with tons of upside. Athletic actions throughout. Ran a 6.91 sixty (laser) paired with a 77 mph OF velo, 78 mph static EV, and an 86 mph Trackman EV. Impressive two pitch mix on the mound with an 80 mph FB (1950 -2050 rpm) and a 67 mph sharp CB (2040-2140 rpm).

Noah Cadiz (C, Pinewood Prep, 2022) - Noted performance at the plate. Found multiple barrels and was consistently on time. Natural elevation with line drives and fly balls in his BP round. Top Trackman exit speed was 89.2 mph with a top carry distance of 326'1" during his BP rounds. POP times came in between 2.00 and 2.11 in the workout.

Nate Hoyt (OF, Bluffton, 2022)
- Lengthy limbs and projectable build. Back on track after a big time performance on Saturday. Ran a 6.80 sixty (laser). He also posted an 80 mph OF velo, 92 mph static (tee) EV, and a 95.2 mph Trackman EV during BP which he carried deep and out to LF. He also found the barrel against live pitching, hitting a sharp ground ball back up the middle.

Robert McMillan (3B, Northside Christian, 2023)
- Young prospect who is still early on in his physical maturation. Natural instincts, showed a quick direct bat path and good hand eye. He found two barrels during his live ABs driving line drives into the OF on both pitches. Consistent on barrel contact in BP with an average line drive EV of 84 mph. (Trackman)

Andrew Buffkin (SS/RHP, Loris, 2023)
- Athletic 2023. Loose actions at the plate and a whippy barrel with natural lift in the finish. Was very impressive on the mound. Ran the FB up to 84 (2050-2100 rpm) from a 3Q slot, complimenting the FB with a 70-71 (1900 rpm) mph CB with hard downer action. Follow.

Clayton Stewart (RHP, Ben Lippen, 2021) - 6 foot 4, 200lb XL frame with surprising athleticism on the mound. Worked the FB from 82-85 (2000-2100 rpm) in the zone. Mixed a SL at 74-76 (2100-2200 rpm). Profiles like a bullpen arm if he can pick up some more velo. Repeated well and worked with an athletic delivery.

Layton Dickerson (LHP/OF, Palmetto, 2022) - Solid all around day for Dickerson. Turned in a 6.97 sixty (laser) with an 80 mph static (tee) EV, and an 81 mph OF velo. Really impressed on the mound with the ability to spin a quality breaking ball with late bite and downer action. Worked his FB from 78-80 (1800-2000 rpm) and put up the best breaking ball spin with a 65 mph CB spinning at 2690 rpm.

Sydney Mullenix (RHP, Northwestern, 2021) - Probably the best our scouts have seen him throw. FB was consistent at 82-83 (2095-2190 rpm) and ripped off some quality breaking balls expanding down in the zone when he got ahead drawing multiple swing and misses. CB ranged from 69-71 mph with 2325-2425 rpm.

Josh Williams (OF, West Florence, 2022)
- LHH has a stocky build, strong throughout. Pull heavy in his BP round, peppering the wall in RF. Battled some tightness in his back during the event but put on a nice display of loud contact during BP. BP paired with a 6.91 sixty time put the arrow trending up.

Jake Sears (C, AC Flora, 2022) - 5 foot 10, 205lbs. Will be able to add strength to the study frame with future player development. Balanced approach at the plate with good rotation through the lower half. Event best 1.96 low pop time with a 76 mph C velo.

Gabriel Harris (OF, Laurence Manning, 2021) - Uncommitted OF ran a 6.83 and posted a 94 mph EV during BP (Trackman). Pullside heavy in BP. The OF put accurate throws on the plate with carry at 81 mph.

Jonathan Douglas (INF, Legion Collegiate Academy, 2022)
- The burner didn't disappoint with the second best time of the day at 6.62 (laser) besting his previous PBR time of 6.65. Douglas has shown his ability to play to his strengths and Saturday was no different. His BP round was full of sharp line drives and ground balls in the middle of the field. Top EV during BP 89 mph (Trackman).
