player notes

Mat Szabo, RHP, Great Lake Canadians, 2015

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound righty received the nod today for Ontario Black and the 2015 grad didn’t disappoint. Szabo came out in the first inning with his fastball sitting 83-85. Szabo has a loose, clean arm swing and showed the ability to work his fastball both sides of the plate. Szabo’s curveball was in the 69-71 range, while his change was was clocked between 69-72. His line on the day was four innings pitched, four hits, three walks, 1 earned run while striking out nine.

Isaac Anesty, LHP, Ontario Blue Jays, 2015

Isaac Anesty came in to finish the final three innings, and was very efficient with his work. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound lefty ran his fastball anywhere between 85-89, while showing the makings of a tight downward curveball that was 70-72. Anesty is at his best when he can repeat his delivery and stay on line. That is when you see him run his fastball up into the high 80’s and low 90’s. Today, he finished with six punchouts while walking two and giving up no runs.

Eric Senior, OF, Toronto Mets, 2015

Eric Senior came through late with a two out single that scored two in the sixth to tie the game up at two. Senior, listed at 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, accumulated 2 of Ontario’s three hits in the game, ended up 2-3 on the day with a double as well. Senior played a solid right-field and continued to make productive contact at the plate.

Noteables

Josh Naylor, along with other Team Canada teammates, made it back to Toronto early Thursday morning. Naylor DH and hit third in the lineup, and even with the jet lag and lack of sleep, managed to hit the ball hard in two of his three at-bats.
