Twelve Scout Day: 2022 Grads

Toby Bicknell
Texas Scouting Director

KATY, TX - Day three of the Twelve Scout Day belonged to the 2022 grad class, a group that Coach Dillon and Coach Hodge have been telling us about for some time. Plain and simple, these guys are a must see for college recruiters and will be in attendance at both the Prep Baseball Report National Program Invitational, and the PBR Texas Limited Series.

2022 Grads

C/SS Rylan Galvan (Sinton HS) has big time tools at two premium positions. Started the day with a 6.83 60-yard dash, then threw bullets across the diamond from shortstop at 92 mph, and darts to second base at 88 mph with sub-2 pop times. There is plenty of presence and moxy to think this guy is going to be getting significant attention this summer.

Connor Weigman (Bridgeland HS) has a strong, projectable, athletic frame at approximately 6-foot-2, 180-pounds. After running a 6.81 60-yard dash, the right-handed hitter got two knocks during the game, including a moon shoot homer that he ambushed way over the left field wall. This guy plays hard and has high end awareness, stole third base with a vault lead and runs with ease.

OF/1B Jace Laviollette (Tompkins HS) looks like he could play tight end in the Big Ten right now at approximately 6-foot-3, 190-pounds. The big guy ran a 6.98 60-yard dash and posted a top exit velocity of 99 mph. The left-handed hitter collected two knocks late in counts, a missile by the third baseman and a sharp single to left field.

RHP/OF Trey Duffield (Strake Jesuit) collected two hits and was 82-84 on the mound with a quick arm swing. He also flashed a sharp breaker at 72-74.

C Ryan Williams is an athletic, projectable backstop with high end arm strength at 82 mph from the crouch and top pop time during the workout of 1.83, (2.11 between innings). The right-handed hitter doubled down the right field line with two strikes and lined out to third base on a curveball. Long stride runner posted a 7.06 60 time.

RHP Connor Benge has loose, quick arm swing with an easy stroke. His fastball was 85-87, hitting 87 multiple times and he broke off a sharp curveball at 71-74.

RHP Will Croft mowed down batters in his inning of work with plus feel for three pitches. Working from a ¾ slot with an easy arm stroke and smooth delivery, his fastball was 80-82, and he can spin the breaker anytime he wants at 70-71, and the changeup is solid at 75-76 mph.

LHH/OF Rene Galvan (Sinton HS) threw 86 from the outfield and ran a 7.12 60. The left-handed hitter hammered a double to deep centerfield running a 4.59 on the turn.

1B/RHP Canon Chester (Sinton HS) is a strong corner bat that showed feel to hit with a sharp liner up the middle and a two RBI double down the left field line on a changeup.

Trey Acreman is a smaller framed, quick-twitch right-handed hitter with life in his hands. He ran a 7.03 60 yard dash, threw 87 across the infield. Hitting in the leadoff spot for 15U Black he flew out to right field and singled to left field. I have a feeling this guy is going to do some damage this summer.

RHP Jax Traeger was 85-86 and threw a sharp snap dragon breaking ball at 75 mph.

RHP Max Belyeu looks like an arm that is going to throw hard one day with a long, loose arm swing from a high-¾ slot. His fastball was 82-83, he spun a 71 mph curveball and worked in a number of changeups at 70-73.

RHP Lane Stringer stands approximately 6-foot-3, working from a high slot that creates good tilt on his fastball at 82-85 mph with some late giddy up. He also mixed in a 69-71 mph 12/6 curveball.

RHP Wyatt Wiatrek (Gregory-Portland HS) stands 6-foot-2 with a strong frame for a young player. He topped out at 88, sitting mostly 84-87 with somewhat scattered command. He did break off a couple of quality curveballs at 67-71, and also throws a splitty at 76-77. With his frame and arm strength, this guy could get a ton of outs this summer.

Interested to see what the numbers at the end of the summer are on LHH/1B Mason Ruiz. probably one of my favorite hitters from the past three days because he gets his hack off, has an aggressive mentality, and swings at breakers in the zone (ie. he wants to hit).

RHP Tyler Brautigam has a chance to be one of those guys that really comes into his own in the next couple of years. The right-hander has a long, loose, easy arm stroke from a ¾ slot and the ball comes out effortlessly on both his 82-83 mph fastball and his 67-69 mph slider. He pumped strikes and his hand stays on top of the slider, creating tight rotation and short late break for a strike on command. He also threw a 73-74 mph changeup.

Keep an eye on C Kain Sanchez (younger brother of Kade Sanchez) easy to see how these two guys are related as Kain is a high energy player that uses his voice behind the plate and shows quality arm strength for his age and size at 71 mph and a top pop time of 1.94 during the workout. He back picked a runner at first and singled to the 6 hole.

Several other guys that you can tell love to play hard are RHP/OF Trent Baker who started game two with a quality inning on the bump, pumping strikes at 79-81 with a loose, whippy arm stroke. He also showed quality feel for a 10/4 shaped slider at 70-71 mph. Hitting in the leadoff spot, Baker has freedom in his hands and loose finish of the barrel. During the game, he stole third base and scored on the same pitch when it was grounded up the middle to the shortstop. Plays aggressive and has good all around awareness. C Jackson Braun, who blocks easy behind the plate with tons of twitch and athleticism for a young guy. SS Xander Winkle made several quality plays in the first inning of game two and has quick hands at the plate. Whitley O’Donnell hits leadoff for the 15U White, and there is life and strength in his hands with a loose hack. He schwacked a single to right field and lined out on the button to third base. Hitting in the three hole on that same club is Christian Letendre who was ambushing balls all day, including a double off the wall in left-centerfield.

On the 15 Grey club there is leadoff hitter Chris Benevidez who just looks like he wants to hit with his pre-pitch routine, and Judson Ceyanes in the two hole. Both guys are young and athletic, Ceyanes made a great diving catch in left-field, and Benevidez hammered a ground ball to third base running a 4.36 down the line. On the mound, there are two quality follows in LHP Hunter Bond and LHP Ayden Vincent. Bond stands 6-foot-3 with a long, wiry frame but he can spin a 1/7 curveball on command at 67-68 mph. Vincent stands 6-foot-4 with a strong frame and his fastball topped out 79 mph.
