Uncommitted Spotlight - 2023 Gavin Jacobs

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The PBR Louisiana staff has continued to marvel at the talent that was on hand for the 2020 Louisiana All-State Games held in November at LSE-Eunice.  Players from across the state, in all classes, came together to put on a great show.  Today, in another edition of our "Uncommitted Spotlight" series, we take a closer look at 2023 Gavin Jacobs (Benton HS) and his performance from this year's Louisiana All-State Games.

2023 C/OF Gavin Jacobs (Benton HS)

Physical 6'0" 195 lbs. frame.  The RHH hit from an athletic stance, using a modified leg kick to get into his hitting position, with good rhythm in his hands.  Strong lower half, drives his back knee into the ground to create power.  Did a nice job of using the entire field during his BP round that resulted in a max exit velocity of 93 mph.  Defensively, Jacobs presents well behind the plate, especially with his physical and durable frame.  Excellent receiver who stayed down in his stance longer than most, giving our staff game like pop times of 2.01-2.18 with a positional velocity of 73 mph.  Throws had average carry, but most importantly, were on target.  Ran a 7.26 in the 60 as well.  Jacobs already presents some good physical tools, as well as a durable body frame that one would look for in a catcher.  The sky is the limit for Jacobs and should be on everyone's radar in North Louisiana as he continues to refine his game.
