Class of 2020 Righty Impressed

Scouting Report: Abbott was one of the most impressive arms at the first ever event in the west coast of Canada, the Southern Alberta Open ID this year as the young 2020 grad with a projectable pitcher’s frame at 6-foot-2, 155-pounds was easily one of the better prospects on the mound. Under control with tempo to his delivery, Abbott worked from a ¾, almost high-¾ arm slot with run and downward plane to his fastball that topped out at 82 mph. The arm swing in the back is clean and the ability to get out front with arm speed is there as he worked mostly down in the zone for the majority of his pen with a three-pitch mix. Abbott threw some really tight breaking balls that had late action and 11/5 shape to them, while the changeup worked between 71-75 mph with some feel but lacked polish at the moment for the young right-hander. At the end of his season and late into the fall, Abbott showed why he is a name that you want to follow.
Upcoming: Abbott has taken strides in his game as the velocity has jumped up from the summer to end the 2017 season, and there is no reason not to suggest that this will be a steady trend for a while as Abbott still has young features and the frame projects to add a lot more muscle and size over the next few years. His feel, body control, and command as a young arm are all encouraging signs, along with his stuff and arm speed that make Abbott someone that needs to be locked in on and followed as we head into 2018.
