Underclass Games: Team Gray Analysis

On Tuesday, July 29th, PBR Indiana hosted its Inaugural Underclass Games at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. A total of 70 players from across the state participated in the highly talented event. 

In the coming weeks, we will be adding and updating profiles for each of the players in attendance, including complete analysis and video.

Today we take a look at notes on players from Team Gray: 

Adisyn Coffey, SS/RHP, Delta HS, 2017: 5 foot 11 inches, 145 pounds, 7.5/60, Lanky, athletic player. Reliable middle infielder with soft glove actions and lateral agility. Arm action is loose and easy and he can throw strikes to 1b from the hole (77 mph). He hits from an open stance with a short stride and slight top hand wrap. He squares up pitches, has a fast bat on a level plain with extension through contact. On the mound he fills up the strike zone with a fastball (76-80 mph) and slider (62-63 mph) arm works easy.  Definite follow.

Brett Lemmons, SS/OF, Morgan Twp HS, 2017: 5 foot 10 inches, 150 pounds, 6.68/60, Switch hitting infielder that plays hard, very intense. His arm works at SS (83 mph) with average hands, fluid feet and good ball transfer. With the bat from the right side he has a top hand wrap and a tendency to roll over on outside pitches, on the left side he hits from  a closed stance and gets good extension through contact.

Cole Barnett, 3B/SS, Castle HS, 2016: 6 foot 2 inches, 180 pounds, 7.64/60, Athletic, tall and lanky with a strong lower body, reliable third baseman with solid glove instincts and  average arm strength, 78 mph and on target. Offensively  he has good knowledge of the strike zone and the ball jumps off his bat. Hits from a balanced stance with a short stride, fast bat, line drive hitter that uses the whole field. Will hit for power as he develops physically.

David Ellis, RHP/SS, Princeton HS, 2016: 6 foot, 160 pounds, Very projectable RHP, 85-88 mph fastball that he throws for strikes from a quick ¾ arm slot, slider is 72-75 and he isn’t afraid to throw it in any count. At SS he his dependable with average hands, a quick lower half and a clean ball transfer. He has a balanced stance, short stride, average bat speed, line drive type hitter.

Evan Huffman, OF/SS, Southern Wells HS, 2017: 6 foot 2 inches, 180 pounds, 6.98/60, Strong, well built player that gets good reads on fly balls. Throws 80 mph from right field with a long ¾ arm release.  Hits in a balanced stance with a short powerful stride, generates explosive bat speed. Pull hitter that hits for power at a young age. Definite follow.

Houston Haney, SS/RHP, Westview HS, 2017: 6 foot 2 inches, 170 pounds, 7.11/60, Tall and lanky, very athletic and reliable middle infielder with good glove actions, quick feet and a smooth ball transfer. Compact swing from a balanced stance, long stride and a short path to contact. Line drive hitter.

Hunter Cornelius, MIF/OF, White River Valley HS, 2016: 5 foot 6 inches, 130 pounds, 7.53/60, Scrappy player that runs the bases well. He hits in a wide balanced stance with a high knee load and stride, aggressive hitter with a fast bat. Good glove instincts, closes in on balls, throws 80 mph from right field and 77 mph from shortstop.

Jack Parisi, RHP/3B, Homestead HS, 2017: 5 foot 11 inches, 183 pounds, 7.75/60, Athletic with a thick lower body. Arm action is short and fast, throws are always on target 80 mph from right field and 77 from third base. Offensively he is balanced at the plate with his hands high and a short stride, average bat speed and a long path to the ball. Will hit for power as he gets stronger.

Jack Phillips, RHP/1B, Cathedral HS, 2017: 6 foot 5 inches, 185 pounds, 8.12/60, Lanky and athletic player. At 1B uses a long arm action, from a high ¾ slot, average defender, throws on target at 78 mph across the diamond. From 3B displayed average hands and feet and was 74 mph over to 1B. With the bat he has a long stride and short path to the ball. Phillips projects more on the mound. 

Logan Kabrich, RPH/OF, Brownsburg HS, 2017: 6 foot 1 inch, 175 pounds, 7.31/60, Athletic RHP with a strong lower body. On the mound his fastball is 78-80 mph with heavy downhill plain, slider 70-71 with gradual movement, he throws both pitches for strikes from a high ¾ slot and long arm action, he threw more strikes from the stretch. Defensively he has average hands, fluid feet throws 82 mph from right field. He hits in a wide stance and a short stride with a fast bat and good extension through contact, gap to gap hitter that will grow into a power hitter with added strength.

Nikolos Kavadas, OF/RHP,Mishawaka Penn HS, 2017: 6 foot, 195 pounds, 7.53/60,  Confident RHP that throws strikes from a quick ¾ arm delivery, fastball is 80-82 mph and touches 83 mph, slider is 61-63 with early gradual movement. He displays sound baseball instincts. He is an aggressive hitter with a fast bat, uses the whole field.

Nolan Metcalf, C/1B, Mishawaka Penn HS, 2017: 6 foot 3 inches, 215 pounds, 8.0/60, 2.0- 2.20 pop time, Big athletic young man with a strong lower body, moves well behind the plate and handles pitchers well. Strong arm (82 mph) with good baseball instincts. With the bat he starts with his hands high and a quick trigger from a balanced stance, ball jumps off his bat, gap to gap type hitter that will hit for power has he continues to get stronger.

Quinn Cobb, C/3B, Hamilton SE HS, 2018: 5 foot 8 inches, 165 pounds, 8.18/60 L/R, 2.31-2.44 pop time. Strong athletic catcher with advanced catching instincts. Long throwing motion with average carry to 2b, Hits from a balanced stance with a short smooth stride and his hands high.

Sam Cox, LHP, Hamilton SE HS, 2017: 6 foot 1 inch, 190 pounds, 7.94/60, Very projectable, athletic lanky LHP, Fastball is 73-76 mph and in the strike zone. Curveball 62-66 mph with late action, high ¾ arm angle, easy arm action.

Tyler Holloway, C/3B, Bloomington South HS, 2016:  5 foot 11 inches, 175 pounds, 7.69/60, 2.23-2.47 pop time, Soft glove action and works hard behind the plate, above average baseball instincts. Hits in a balanced stance with a short stride and a fast bat with level extension through contact. Line drive hitter.

Trevor Waite, OF, Mishawaka Penn HS, 2017: 6 foot, 180 pounds, 6.73/60, Throws 77 mph from right field with long arm action, high ¾ slot and always on target. He has average hands, quick feet and closes on fly balls with ease. Hits from an open stance with a short stride and generates a fast bat.

Zyon Avery, C/MIF, Ben Davis HS, 2018: 6 foot, 180 pounds, 8.43/60, 2.26-2.42 pop time, Strong athletic catcher with long arm action and average hands. Hits from a balanced stance with a fast bat, pull hitter that will hit for power with added strength.
