Unsigned Senior Games: Middle Infield Analysis

On Sunday, October 19th PBR Indiana hosted the Unsigned Senior Games at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. A total of 54 players participated in the event, including two from Illinois and one from Tennessee. Below we analyze the corner infielders that participated in the event. 

Top Ranked Middle Infielders

Travis Mears, SS, Brownsburg HS, 2015: 6-foot-2, 185 pound MIF shows quick, soft hands.  Athletic actions with fluid feet.  Showcased range to both his left and right.  Clean exchange.  Quick, strong arm across the field at 83 mph.  Ran a 7.37-60.  At the plate uses an athletic approach with good balance throughout.  Above average bat speed.  Quick hands, level path to the ball and consistently got to extension.  High contact hitter with gap power.  Fluid rhythm throughout.  Registered an exit velo of 93 mph.  

Slater Rush, 2B/MIF, Greefield Central HS, 2015: 6-foot-2, 168 pound senior possesses a lean, athletic frame.  Defensively displayed soft hands with quick, fluid feet.  Exchange is clean.  Plays through the baseball well.  Showcased some range and the ability to pick it.  Ran a 7.09-60 and showcased a strong, accurate arm at 82 mph.  Offensively starts in an athletic setup and uses a toe tap.  Loads back, slight arm bar.  Good approach to the baseball with quick hands.  Gets to extension.  Showcased some pop to the pull-side.  Line drive hitter.  Registered an exit velo of 82 mph.   Recently committed to Wabash Valley.

Brad Burton, SS, Fishers HS, 2015: 6-foot, 175 pound athletic MIF possesses athletic actions up the middle.  Quick, fluid feet.  Showcased soft hands with a quick release.  Tendency to pack during the exchange, but does have the ability to get rid of it.  Plays through the ball well.  Good feel for the position, solid defender.  Accurate arm across the diamond at 80 mph with carry.  Ran a 7.14-60.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup.  Stride is short.  Smooth load.  Hands drop at times during the load.  Average bat speed.  Short, level path to the ball.  Lacks elite power.  Hard contact produced lots of line drives.  Registered an exit velo of 79 mph.  

Best of the rest (In Alphabetical Order)

Brooks Bailey, 2B/MIF, Hauser HS, 2015: 5-foot-11 160 pound MIF plays through the baseball well with fluid feet.  Clean exchange with average hands.  Showcased range to his glove side.  Short, accurate arm across the field at 73 mph.  Ran a 7.33-60.  At the plate starts open.  Hands tend to drop during the load.  Stride is short with average use of the lower half.  Showcased good balance.  Bat speed is average.  Showcased some pull-side power with fluid rhythm throughout his swing.  Registered an exit velo of 75 mph.

Jacob Fernung, 2B/MIF, Lafayette Harrison HS, 2015: 5-foot-11, 160 pound MIF ran a 6.87-60.  Average hands in the field.  Plays through the ball well with some athleticism.  Fluid feet.  Clean exchange.  Accurate arm across the field at 77 mph.   At the plate hits from a balanced setup.  Loads back .  Leg kick.  Level path to the ball.  Choppy rhythm.  Registered an exit velo of 79 mph. 

Jacob Hammel, SS/3B, Hamilton Heights HS, 2015: 6-foot-3, 160 pound MIF showcased average hands defensively with fluid feet.  Packs during the exchange.  Accurate throws across the diamond at 76 mph.  Showed the ability to throw from multiple arm angles.  Plays through the baseball well.  Ran a 7.59-60.  Offensively starts open. Hands drop during the load.  Hands work with average bat speed.  Registered an exit velo of 81 mph.  Gets to extension with a long path to the ball.  Hard contact with gap potential.  

Caleb Melloh, SS, Franklin Central HS, 2015: 5-foot-8, 165 pound MIF possesses average hands and feet in the field.  Across the diamond was 77 mph.  Ran a 7.05-60.  At the plate starts balanced and loads back.  Stride is short.  Good balance throughout.  Average bat speed with a good approach to the ball.  Short, level path to the ball produced line drives.  Contact type hitter.  Registered an exit velo of 80 mph. 

Cody Moncel, SS/2B, Lutheran HS, 2015: 5-foot-8, 165 pound MIF ran a 7.00-60. Moves well in the field with average hands.  Clean exchange.  Across the diamond was 77 mph.  Projects more as a 2B.  Offensively, hits from a slight crouch using a short stride.  Short, level path to the baseball.  Average bat speed.  Hard contact hitter.  Registered an exit velo of 79 mph. 

Ryan Moore, SS, Evansville Central HS, 2015: 5-foot-10, 160 pound MIF showcased fluid feet in the field with average hands.  Lacks elite foot speed.  Ran a 7.62-60.  Packs during the exchange.  Plays through the ball with some athleticism.  Showed the ability to throw from multiple arm angles. Accurate arm across the diamond at 77 mph.  Offensively, hits from an athletic setup with a slightly open front foot.  Leg kick for timing. Average use of the lower half.  Level path to the baseball.  High contact hitter.  Registered an exit velo of 77 mph.   

Grant Rademacher, 2B/MIF, Munster HS, 2015: 6-foot-2, 170 pounder possesses average hands up the middle.  Lacks elite foot speed.  Plays through the ball well with a clean exchange.  78 mph across the field from a short arm action.  At the plate starts in an athletic setup.  Loads back, using a short stride.  Average bat speed with a level path to the ball.  Line drive hitter, some pop to the left-side.  Registered an exit velo of 83 mph.   

A.J. Taylor, 2B/MIF,  Covenant Christian HS, 2015: 5-foot-10, 160 pounds, ran a 7.12-60.  Showcased athletic actions defensively with quick, fluid feet and above average hands.  Plays through the ball with athleticism.  Across the diamond was 73 mph.  Offensively, starts balanced and uses a slight leg lift for timing.  Stride is short.  Minimal load back with average bat speed.  Swing path is short and slightly uphill.  Hard contact hitter produces line drives.  Registered an exit velo of 74 mph.
