This week we begin our rollout of positional analysis from the Unsigned Senior Showcase at Grand Park in Westfield on October 8. Today we look at the catchers in attendance.

Top Catching Prospects

Sam Eaton C / 3B / Westfield, IN / 2018

Physical frame at 6-foot-2, 185 pound catcher and corner infielder.  Athletic movements in the box.  Fluid load and quick barrel turn.  Long path to contact.  Line drive approach with gap to gap power.  High exit velocity of 84.  Behind the plate, footwork and exchange are quick.  Pops up out of crouch.  Short, loose arm action.  Throws topped 74 with accuracy.  Pop times ranged between 2.05-2.16.  Above average hands both behind the plate and at third base.  Projects as a catcher.

 

 

Alex Mitchell C / 3B / Decatur Central, IN / 2018

5-foot-10, 150 pound catcher hits from an open setup featuring leg kick during a smooth load.  Long, level bat path.  High exit velocity of 75.  Behind the plate, quick transfer and footwork.  High 3/4 release.  Throws topped at 75 from the crouch.  Pop times ranged between 2.07-2.15.  In the outfield, Mitchell has above average movements with fluid footwork and exchange.  Throws topped at 82mph.

Cameron Brice, C/1B, Vaparaiso HS, 2018

6-foot-3, 215 pound catcher had a pop time range between 2.27-2.25.  Throws topped at 67mph.  Footwork is long, flat.  Right-handed hitter has an open setup with long stride.  Long, uphill swing path.  Pullside approach.  High exit velocity of 84mph.

AJ Gray, C/3B, Noblesville HS, 2018

5-foot-10, 170 pound catcher hits from a wide, open setup.  Long stride, hands load back.  Uphill, long path to contact.  Some pull side power.  High exit velocity of 83mph.  Defensively, transfer is quick with a short arm swing.  Throws topped at 69mph.  Feet get squared, works through lower half.  Pop times ranged between 2.19-2.26.

Xander Lerch, OF/C, Farifield HS, 2018

5-foot-8, 135 pound outfielder hits from a narrow setup.  Loads into a crouch.  Long, level bat path to contact.  High exit velocity of 70.  In the outfield, plays with flat footwork and clean exchange.  Throws topped at 66mph.  Behind the plate, exchange and arm action are long.  Throws topped at 63.  Pop times ranged between 2.36-2.45.

Jaxon Meyer, C, RHP, Harrison HS, 2018

5-foot-11, 235 pound catcher has an open setup with short stride and smooth hand load.  Above average bat speed.  High exit velocity of 85.  Flat path.  Some gap to gap power.  Defensively, pop times ranged between 2.18-2.26.  Clean transfer into short arm swing.  Average arm strength.  Throws topped at 69mph.  

Samuel Riddle, C, Crawfordsville HS, 2018

6-foot, 165 pound catcher showcased pop times between 2.3-2.44.  Throws topped at 63 from the crouch.  Fluid transfer, long footwork.  Works through his throws.   Up the middle, footwork is flat with average hands.  Throws topped at 69mph.  He hits from a tall setup and short stride.  Long, uphill path.  Fair balance.  High exit velocity of 73.
