Scouting Report

10/10/18 - Listed 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. Thompson has a bigger swing, but possesses probably as much raw pop as any hitter in the class. He hung out some vicious line drives in batting practice, not getting as much lift as on previous looks and turned in a 91 mph exit velocity. Starting with a slightly narrower base than we’ve seen before, drifting forward into big separation. Would likely benefit from cutting down on some of the moving parts in swing to allow raw pop to show up more often in game action. Posted 7.19 second 60-yard dash and certainly has the type of offensive tools to impact the game at the next level. He's relatively new to the game and a somewhat raw defender with 83 mph velocity from OF, but a program willing to invest in his continued development could reap a big reward down the line.

6/27/18 - 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame. Thompson was a complete unknown coming in to the event, but that didn't last long as he was one of only a couple prospects to leave the yard during BP at the Royals Complex. Thompson could develop into a very physical presence and already possesses standout raw power; 96 mph exit velocity. Looking to lift and pull, Thompson has a significant uphill bat path and bigger swing, but showed an ability to be on time in game action. His 7.20 60-yard dash and 85 mph outfield velocity make him profile as a corner OF at the next level. Bat could easily play enough to make move to 1B if necessary. He's relatively new to the game and the upside appears significant.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Thompson: New Mexico State, Central Arizona, South Mountain, Gateway, Benedictine University, Ventura College, Minot State, Wake Tech, Newbury College, and Richland Community.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future?

Thompson: I’ve visited Benedictine University, South Mountain, and Gateway Community.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Thompson: I’m looking for a place where I can continue to grow and improve as a player and a person. Somewhere that puts academics just as important as baseball.

PBR: What were some of your highlights during your junior year, personally and as a team?

Thompson: Personally my highlights have to be hitting over .440 and getting 2nd team all region, due to the fact of sitting out 9 games because of the transfer policy. Team wise, would have to be going to the semi-finals and playing Nogales. We went into the 10th inning and fell just short. We went 27-5 and we will be just as good or even better this year.

PBR: What goals do you have this year for yourself? What goals does your team have for the year?

Thompson: My goals this year would have to start out with getting 1st team all state and being a good teammate and leader. The team this year has the goal of making it to state and winning the whole thing.

PBR: Are you playing with anyone this winter? If so, where?

Thompson: I’m playing with my high school, Sunrise Mountain.
