Shon Plack
Missouri Scouting Director

Dalan Merriman (Seneca, 2014) is a 6-foot-1 170-pound 3B/RHP.  Merriman had a monster junior year, posting a .487 batting average with a .576 on-base percentage.  He set a school record with 39 hits that included eight doubles, three triples, and a home run.  Merriman knocked in 16 runs and swiped 20 bases.  On the mound, he was 5-1 with a 2.56 ERA in 43 innings pitched.  The right-hander recorded 61 strike-outs and added four saves.

Merriman was recognized for his work on the field.  He was selected Class 4 District 11 1st Team All District, Big 8 Conference 1st Team 3rd Base, Big 8 Conference 2nd Team Pitcher, Springfield News Leader Class 4 All District 3rd Base, and Missouri Baseball Coaches Association 2nd Team All-State Infield.

Merriman is ready to get started on the 2014 season.  "My goals are to make 1st team all-state, increase my batting average and help my team win state," Merriman said. Seneca was 22-4 a season ago and one of the top Missouri Class 4 teams in the state.

Seneca's head coach, Chris Yust mentioned, "Dalan is a good athlete with good game speed and quickness. Defensively he reads the ball well off the bat getting good jumps, comes and gets the ball well with a strong arm. Offensively he has good bat control, can bunt, and hit to all fields. Dalan works hard on the field and would be willing to play outfield or infield."

During the summer Merriman plays for the Midwest Nationals based out of Springfield, and during the fall he plays football. In 2012, he earned all-conference honorable mention honors as a linebacker.

Merriman plans on visiting Missouri Southern, Crowder and College of the Ozarks in the near future.  He has a 2.86 GPA and 22 ACT.
