Ben Smith, 1B, S/L, Hendersonville HS, 2015

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound prospect opened some eyes at the PBR Tennessee Unsigned Senior Games event with a solid performance.

Offensively, Smith showed his bat speed from both sides of the plate with 91 mph exit velocity off the tee from the left side and 88 mph from the right side.  He followed that up with a solid round of batting practice from both sides that showed his power potential and continued to hit well in game play with two sharp singles.  Smith uses good lower half torque in his swing that generates bat speed through the zone.  Defensively, he continued to impress with quick, natural instincts around the bag.

Smith’s switch-hitting ability makes him an intriguing prospect at the next level.  He has the potential to be a middle-of-the-order type bat from both sides of the plate.
