By Steve Nielsen
Scouting Director - Illinois

Today’s unsigned senior spotlight is on Larry Holman. Holman is an athletic centerfielder for Joliet West. The diminutive left-handed Holman brings a big game to the field. Holman is a nuisance at the top of the lineup for the Tigers. He led the team in runs scored with 33 and got on base at a .487 clip. He also led the team in walks with 19 and hit .365. His 15 stolen bases is also a team high.

Holman has a smaller frame with strength at 5-foot-9, 155-pounds. He is a left handed throwing and hitting outfielder who shows the ability to cover ground in both gaps. Holman is an athlete; he shows above average foot speed running a 4.2-4.3 home to first. Defensively he shows closing speed to the gaps and makes above average reads in the outfield.

Offensively he hits from the left side as the team’s leadoff hitter. He has quick hands and shows the ability to fight off tough pitches. Holman is a contact hitter who handles the bat well. He projects to be a contributing leadoff hitter at the next level with an above average defensive prowess in the outfield.
