Welcome to the VA/DC Scoreboard. This year we will run our scoreboards on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We will always be sure to include scores and brief recaps of games involving Power 25 teams and will strive to get as many of the rest of the scores from the Commonwealth and the District as well.

 

Wednesday 3/13

No. 1 Benedictine 3, Walsingham Academy 2
Alex Markus and Tanner Schobel (Virginia Tech) dueled early and Jack Hall ended the game with a walk-off sacrifice fly. Schobel was also 2-4 with a double for Walsingham. Jack Carpin was 2-3 for the Cadets.

No. 3 Miller School 20, Hargrave Academy 0

Junior Trey Gibson (Liberty) tossed 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball and struck out 9 to earn the win and junior Mark Petko (Radford) picked up the save with a perfect 1.2 innings and 2 strikeouts.

Senior Brody Mack (William & Mary) went four innings to get his first win of the season while driving in 3 runs at the plate. Julian Cumba was 2-4 with an RBI and 2 SBs and Josue Cumba was 0-2 with 2 BB and struck out the side in 1 IP.

Senior Peter Colevas struck out 8 in 4 innings of work and Eddie Eisert (NC State) was 3-4 with a home run and 2 SB.

No. 1 Benedictine 1, Norfolk Christian 0
Casey Green (Coastal Carolina) went 6 scoreless to outduel Ty Johnson, who held Benedictine to just four hits. Jay Woolfolk was 1-3 with a stolen base and the game's lone run and fired a perfect seventh to earn the save.

No. 6 Godwin 19, Maggie Walker 0
Senior Liam Deegan (Virginia) was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 4 RBIs.

Freedom (South Riding) 7, No. 9 Riverside 5
Sophomore Casey Cook (North Carolina) was 3-4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and 2 RBIs and Ben Williamson (William & Mary) was 2-4 with home run and a double out of the leadoff spot for the Eagles and Michael Meglio was 3-4 with 4 stolen bases. Carson Swank (Yale) was 2-3 with a double for the Rams and Michael Walsh had 3 RBIs.

No. 10 Menchville 14, Warwick 1
Philip Forbes V (James Madison) threw a five-inning 1 hitter with 9 strikeouts in the win while also going 1-3 with a double and an RBI. Kade Abrisz was 2-2 with 3 RBIs and Dawson Guzik was was 1-2 with three walks and 3 RBIs.

Great Bridge 6, No. 12 Western Branch 2
Alex Ziemke threw a complete game in the win, while also going 2-5 with a double. Jake Perry, Parker Russell, and Logan Thompson also had multi-hit games for the Wildcats.

No. 16 Battlefield 6, Forest Park 2
Cole Snead struck out 6 in 4 innings to earn the win and CJ Miles was 4-4 and a home run short of the cycle with 3 RBIs and a stolen base for the Bobcats.

No. 17 Greenbrier Christian 15, First Flight 2
Junior Nic Britt (William & Mary) was 2-4 with a double and 3 RBIs and senior JT Inskeep (VMI) was 2-4 with a double, a triple, and 2 RBIs as the Gators rolled to a win.

No. 22 Wilson 2, Paul VI Catholic 1
Junior Colin Bosley-Smith (Duke) allowed 1 run on no hits in 5 innings of work as he and two other pitchers combined to no-hit the Panthers. 

Paul VI Catholic 7, No. 22 Wilson 4
Freshman Bradley Gagen (Virginia) earned the win with 4 innings of relief and 7 strikeouts as the Panthers rallied late to come back and win. Patrick Ashby was 1-2 with a BB and 2 RBIs for Paul VI.

Senior Carson Fuller had had a home run and 2 RBIs and Camdton Furman (Randolph-Macon) had 3 RBIs in the win.

Friday 3/15

No. 1 Benedictine 6, Bishop McNamara (MD) 3
Five different Cadets drove in runs on the day with Brett Allen leading the way with a 1-3, 2 RBI game. Jack Hall was 1-3 with a walk and an RBI.

No. 8 Liberty Christian 12, Freedom (South Riding) 8
11 runs were scored in the first inning as the Eagles got out to a 7-4 lead after 1. Ben Williamson (William & Mary) was 2-4 with another home run and sophomore Casey Cook (North Carolina) was also 2-4 for Freedom. For LCA, Jacob Williams (Middle Tennessee St) was 2-2 with a double and 3 BBs. Noah Robbins had 3 RBIs, Luke Ramsey was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Emmanuel Johnson (Liberty) had 2 RBIs.

Potomac Falls 5, No. 9 Riverside 0
Junior lefty Nate Savino (Virginia) struck out 18 in a 2-hit shutout with no walks, needing just 82 pitches to throw his complete game. Savino was also 2-3 and Andrew Gerhart (Mary Washington) was 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Jack Campbell was also 1-3 with 2 RBIs for the Panthers.

No. 13 James Madison 12, West Springfield 2
Senior Matt Howat (William & Mary) struck out 7 in five innings. David Favero was 2-3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBIs.

No. 15 Salem (Roanoke) 9, William Byrd 4
Caleb Lingenfelter was 2-4 with 2 doubles and Parker Stallard (Virginia Tech) was 2-3 with a stolen base. Matt Wright and Michael Morrison each had 2 RBIs for the Spartans while Hunter Tensen picked up the save with 3 strong innings of 1-hit ball. Tyler Dean was 2-3 for Byrd.

Stafford 1, North Stafford 0, Commonwealth District Championship
Robbie Baker threw five innings of 1-hit ball and Tucker Sullivan struck out 5 in the a perfect final two innings to lock the game down for the Indians. Jimmy Baker had the game's lone RBI in the second as both teams combined to manage three hits.

Jamari Baylor (Louisburg JC) was 2-3 and Brett Cook had a home run as the Cadets demolished the No. 1 ranked team in Maryland.

Calvert Hall (MD) 4, No. 2 St. John's College 2 
Junior Luke Schauer (Virginia) struck out 6 in 2.1 innings and freshman James Triantos (North Carolina) was 2-4 as the Cadets fell to the No. 2 ranked team in Maryland.

No. 3 Miller School 5, Steward 4
The Mavericks rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the top of the seventh to win with the big blow coming on a Jack Carey three-run home run that gave Miller the lead. Junior Jeremy Wagner (Austin Peay) was 2-4 with an RBI and Garrett Payne (NC State) struck out the last three hitters of the game to earn the save for Miller. Junior Harrison Clifton (Clemson) threw 3 innings of 2-hit ball while striking out 5 to open the game for Steward while also going 1-4 with an RBI. Grayson Rose was also 2-4.

Cape Henry Collegiate 1, No. 14 Collegiate 0
Senior Aiden Kuhle (Roanoke) held Collegiate to just one hit in 8 innings while striking out 10 to earn the win. Michael Stewart (James Madison) threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball himself for Collegiate. Junior Dane Hoggard (Seton Hall) was 2-3 and Alex Gianascolli drove in the game's only run for Cape Henry.

No. 14 Collegiate 13, Cape Henry Collegiate 3
Junior Michael Stewart (James Madison) had a grand slam and junior Nigel Williams was 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs as well. Lew Rice was also 2-3 with 2 RBIs for the Cougars.

No. 17 Greenbrier Christian 10, Covenant 3
Ethan Ott was 3-4 with 2 RBIs and Tyler Wilson struck out 4 while allowing 1 run in 4.2 innings.

No. 17 Greenbrier Christian 7, No. 24 Highland 2
Senior JT Inskeep (VMI) struck out 8 in six innings of 1-hit ball and also went 3-4 with 3 RBIs at the plate. Ethan Ott had a home run and 2 RBIs. 2021 Blake Cuddington had a 2-run home run for the Hawks.

Joe DeBardi (Mt. St. Mary's) was 3-3 with 3 RBIs and Luke Burner (West Virginia Wesleyan) was 2-3 with 2 RBIs and struck out 5 in 3.2 innings to earn the win.
