State Champions were announced for the first time this weekend in the Virginia/DC area of coverage as we saw the majority of Private school organizations, the VISAA in Virginia, and the DCSAA in the District announce their respective champions. We give you a recap of the games below.

DCSAA

St. John's captured the DCSAA championship on Saturday behind a shutout from senior Ian Remalia as St. John's defeated Wilson 1-0.

The lone run in the game was scored in the bottom of the third inning when St. John's took advantage of back-to-back walks from Wilson star pitcher Collin Bosley-Smith. DM Jefferson would score on a wild pitch that turned into the lone run scored in the game.

Remalia pitched well for the Cadets, scattering four hits in the game while striking out three and walking two. Remailia would get two double plays in the second and third innings to end the frame after 1-out hits. Bosley-Smith pitched equally as well in a hard luck loss, tossing six innings, giving up two hits and striking out nine.

VISAA DIVISION I

The Benedictine Cadets overcame a 4-1 deficit and scored three runs in the sixth inning to break open a 4-4 tie to take the Division I Championship in VISAA with a 7-4 victory.

St. Christopher's took an early lead after a lead off single from SS Griff O'Ferrall. An error and tough play on an infield single led to two runs for the Saints. Benedictine tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning of a 4-1 deficit after an RBI single to right from Brett Cook and throwing error led to two runs, then Bennett Lloyd hit an RBI single up the middle that scored Cook.

The Cadets would load the bases in the bottom of the sixth inning with the game still tied at four. Lloyd would strike again with the first RBI, this time on a groundout down the first base line that would have cleared the bases if not for a brilliant play by St. Chris 1B Da'mone Fleming. Jack Anderson would then knock in two run with his pinch hit RBI double to take the 7-4 lead. Jay Woolfolk closed in out for the Cadets in the Seventh.

VISAA DIVISION II

Miller captured their third straight VISAA championship by taking a big lead early and hold off multiple rallies to defeat Highland School 10-5 in the Division II State Championship.

Miller would score eight runs in the bottom of the first inning as the Mavericks would bat a round. Two hit batters and a walk would start the inning. Jeremy Wagner scored on a pass ball that would be followed by a 2-RBI double to left from 2021 Vince DiLeonardo. He would score after double from Garrett Payne. An error would be followed by four stright hits, highlighted by a bases clearing triple from the bat of Ethan Chenault off the center field wall.

Highland would strike for three runs in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI single from the bat of Blake Cuddington with two outs. Miller would strike back for a run in both the third and fourth innings. Highland would get two more runs in the top of the sixth inning, but just could not recover from the first inning in this ball game.

VISAA DIVISION III

Walsingham broke open a 1-1 tie, outscoring Southampton 11-1 from the bottom of the third inning on en route to a 12-2 victory and back-to-back titles for the Trojans.

In the bottom of the third, Walsingham scored three runs to open up the game. Trey Christman and Jacob Miller-Bopp supplied the RBI's in the frame. The Trojans would add four more in the fourth with a RBI double from Zach Stanko, a sac fly from Lincoln Lubsen, a double from Cody Christman, and a single from Christian Carter. Walsingham would add four more runs to end this contest early with a ten run lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Both Trey and Cody Christman led the Trojans going 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI. Tanner Schobel also provided a 2-for-2 day scoring three runs for the Trojans.
