WIAA D2 Sectional: Turner Triumps And Moves On To State

Mount Horeb 6, Prairie du Chien 4

Mount Horeb got off to a shaky start, but were able to right the ship and rally for a 6-4 victory over Prairie du Chien in the first semifinal Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings surrendered a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but were able to rally back in the fifth inning with three runs. Tyler Denu pitched 5.1 innings of relief for Mount Horeb, picking up the win.

Turner 2, Catholic Memorial 1

In what was a pitchers dual between Catholic Memorial’s Ben Dragani and Turner’s Hunter Martindale, it was Martindale and the Trojans who prevailed 2-1 in the second semifinal Tuesday afternoon. Catholic Memorial took the early thanks to an RBI single by Alex Cyskiewicz. The Trojans struck back with two runs in the top of the fifth, Ethan Burns drove in the tying run on an RBI double and came around to score on Hunter Waldsmith’s single. Hunter Martindale pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out six..

Turner 5, Mount Horeb 1

The Turner Trojans triumphed over the Mount Horeb Vikings 5-1 in the Evansville Sectional Final, earning a place in the 2A state semifinals. The Trojans scored at least a run in each of the first three innings as five different players recorded an RBI. Mount Horeb had the bases loaded with one out in the fourth, but were unable to capitalize on the situation, scoring one run.

Hunter Waldsmith got the start for Turner. He responded by pitching a complete game, surrendering only one run on five hits. Waldsmith helped his own cause going 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and one run. Ethan Burns and Samuel Behm each recorded two hits for the Trojans.

Turner advances to play West Salem, who were a 5-3 winner over Prescott on Tuesday afternoon, for a berth in the state finals.
