Last week saw the majority of Virginia and DC move into their playoffs, with conference tournaments at northern public schools, the conclusion of the regular seasons in the south and west, and the VISAA State Tournament.

Greenbrier Christian finished its season in the No. 1 spot, picking up its 30th win of the season on Sunday as the Gators won the VISAA Division II Championship in head coach Gary Lavelle’s final game on the job.

Moving up in the rankings to No. 13 is the Collegiate Cougars, which ended their season on a double-digit winning streak as Collegiate won the VISAA Division I Championship Sunday night against Paul VI.

Southampton Academy captured the VISAA Division III crown, its second straight title in the other Championship game that was held in Colonial Heights yesterday afternoon.

The Top 10 remains the same this week as all of the teams in it either went undefeated on the week, or in St. John’s case, had completed its season already. This trend actually extends to most of the Power 25 from last week, as only four of the teams in last week’s rankings suffered a loss last week.

Despite its loss, Atlantic Shores Christian moved up a spot to wrap up its season at No. 19 as the Seahawks had the Gators on the ropes Sunday, finishing just a few outs short of a championship.

Eight Conference champions were crowned last week and the 5A North and 6A North tournaments begin this week. No. 14 Chantilly rallied late on Friday against rival Centreville to capture the Chargers’ second straight Concorde Conference Championship and finish conference play with a perfect record.

Defending 6A champion No. 5 James Madison won another Liberty Conference championship on Friday night, narrowly defeating McLean in the Championship game, 1-0.

Lake Braddock won the Patriot Conference on Friday night over rival West Springfield. The Spartans had swept the Bruins in the regular season, but Braddock was dominant in its title game win, 8-0.

No. 8 Battlefield won the Cedar Run Conference on Friday with a 2-1 win over rival Patriot, giving the Bobcats a season sweep of the Pioneers, and allowing them to finish conference play with a perfect record.

No. 15 George C. Marshall won the Capitol Conference 13 Championship game over Edison on Friday night, and the Statesmen finished the season unbeaten in conference play. Marshal was the 5A North and 5A State Runners-up last year.

No. 20 Briar Woods won the Conference 14 Championship game over Stone Bridge on Thursday as the Falcons came out on top of a conference with four very good teams, including the defending State Champion Bulldogs.

No. 23 Mountain View wrapped up the Conference 15 Championship, defeating Potomac on Friday night to capture program’s second ever Conference title, and its second in a row.

Newly ranked No. 24 Halifax County also locked down the Conference 16 Championship last week, defeating Atlee 7-5 to run the Comets’ record to 19-1 entering the Regional Tournament.

Also back in the rankings this week at No. 25 is Paul VI Catholic. The Panthers finished the season as the VISAA Runners-up after entering the tournament as the top seed, reaching the Championship Game before falling to Collegiate.
