Last week saw numerous upsets in the Power 25, as six teams in the Top Ten lost, with three of them suffering through 0-3 weeks. This has led to a lot of movement in our rankings, which remain mostly fluid as we enter May with the VISAA tournament quickly approaching.

New No. 1 Greenbrier Christian, No. 2 Hanover, and No. 3 Liberty Christian have set themselves apart from all of the other schools in the state at this point because they still have yet to lose to an opponent in Virginia or the District. All three schools have beaten good competition and have also been able to avoid losses on days when they haven't played their best game.

Jamestown made the biggest leap in the rankings, moving from No. 25 to No. 6. The Eagles have only lost once this season, in March to Lafayette. Since then, Jamestown has picked up wins over Hickory and Grassfield, and avenged their loss to Lafayette as the Eagles moved into the driver’s seat in the Ironclad Conference with the win over the Rams.

Grassfield moved back into the Top Five with wins last week over Top Ten opponents Atlantic Shores Christian and Lafayette. Grassfield has only lost this spring in close pitcher’s duels, and the Grizzlies have a pair of aces of their own, making them one of the toughest matchups in our coverage area.

Hickory enters the Top 10 as the Hawks have rolled since their loss to Western Branch. The Hawks boast one the best offenses one to nine in Virginia and have only been beaten when facing an elite arms. With improving pitching down the stretch, Hickory is better now than they were in March. Prince George moves into the Top 10 this week as the Royals remained undefeated on the spring with a pair of wins last week.

Briar Woods moved up to No. 15 as the Falcons are now 4-0 in conference play and have created separation between themselves and the rest of Conference 14. The Falcons will host No. 14 George C. Marshall on Tuesday night in a non-conference game that could be a preview of things to come late in the 5A North Regional tournament.

Chantilly entered the rankings by remaining undefeated in Concorde Conference play and rallying from a 4-1 deficit against Battlefield on Monday to win, 14-5. The Chargers’ only losses this spring have been a pair of one run losses to very good Stone Bridge and Mountain View squads.

Mountain View also enters the rankings this week at No. 23. The Wildcats figure to be a part of what is shaping up to be a very entertaining 5A North Region tournament this spring that could feature the following teams vying for two State Tournament spots: Mountain View, Potomac, Briar Woods, Stone Bridge, Potomac Falls, Tuscarora, Halifax County, Atlee, Orange, Patrick Henry (Ashland), and George C. Marshall.

Our third team entering the rankings is No. 24 Abingdon. The Falcons are a very talented team that is arriving on the scene a bit early, with the majority of its elite talent being in the sophomore and junior classes. The Falcons are 16-3, with two of those losses coming to non-Virginia schools.
