The Wyoming Prospect ID took place on Sunday April, 15th in Casper, Wyoming at Mike Lansing Field.  30 prospects from around the state of Wyoming showcased their skills in a pro-style work out for the PBR Wyoming Staff.  Click Here for a complete PDF of the state from this event.
Over the next several days, Prep Baseball Report Wyoming will break down each player by position.  Beginning our look at the Wyoming Prospect ID is the catching position.


Catcher Analysis:

Ramsay Taliaferro C / RHP / Green River, WY / 2019

5-foot-10, 215-pound right hand hitting C/RHP. At the plate he is balanced with an early load and stride.  Hands create whip in the zone and he showed the ability to hit to all fields.  Swing path is uphill with a long finish.  Exit velocity was 79 mph.  Behind the plate he had a showcase best 2.06 pop-time.  Throws are over the top with carry to the bag.  On the mound he stands tall and gets balanced.  Strong lower leg drive to the plate and stays in-line on his delivery.  Arm speed stays consistent on all three pitches.  Delivery is from a high ¾ arm slot.  Fastball was 76 mph with command down in the zone.  He added a 65-67 mph Curve with 11/5 break and finished with a 71-72 mph Change with late down movement. Ran an 8.48 60.

 

 

 

Reid Gross 3B / Evanston , WY / 2019

5-foot-6, 120-pound right hand hitting C/3B.  At the plate he hits from a wide square stance.  Uses a big load to get to his back side and then lower half fires through the zone.  Swing path is slightly uphill and showed good control in the middle of the field.  Exit velocity was 77 mph. Behind the plate he is compact with good hands for receiving.  Quick twitch in his muscles gets him into a good throwing position.  Arm is high ¾ and ball carries well to the bag.  Pop-times were 2.15-2.20.  He ran a 7.05 60.

 

 

 

Devon King C / SS / Kelly Walsh, WY / 2020

5-foot-11, 190-pound right hand hitting C/SS. At the plate he stands tall and gets to a strong backside load.  Weight stays back during the swing creating an uphill path.  Hands create whip in the zone and exit velocity was 76 mph.  Behind he is fundamentally sound.  Throws drift a bit to the second base side from a high ¾ arm slot.  Pop-times were 2.30-2.31 with a 64 mph arm.  On the mound he gets to balanced and falls to the plate.  Will benefit from a strong lower leg drive.  Delivery is from an over the top arm slot.  Fastball was 73 mph with good location in and out.  He added a 55-56 mph Curve with sweeping break and a 61-62 mph Change to finish his session.  Ran a 8.38 60.

 

 

 

Chad Bila C / 1B / Kelly Walsh, WY / 2019

6-foot-2, 245-pound right hand hitting C/1B. At the plate he stands open with a long stride to come square.  Lower half is solid through the zone creating good pull side power.  Swing is long with extension out front.  Exit velocity was 77 mph. Behind the plate he showed soft hands on the pitch.  Solid lower half on the throw down and arm is over the top.  Throws were accurate to the base at 64 mph.  Pop-times were 2.32-2.34. Ran an 8.50 60 at this event.

 

 

 

Hunter Rabourn C / 3B / Natrona county, WY / 2021

5-foot-6, 160-pound right hand hitting C/3B. Simple set up at the plate with a long stride and slow load.  Swing is flat through the zone with a one hand finish.  Showed some pull side power, bat speed will improve as he continues to grow.  Exit velocity was 68 mph.  Behind the plate he showed good instincts and actions while receiving pitches.  Arm is high ¾ with accuracy to the bag.  Arm velocity was 61 mph and he ran an 8.28 60.
