Wyoming Prospect ID Player Analysis

The Prep Baseball Report’s Wyoming Prospect ID took place on Wednesday June 21st at Historic Powers Field in Cheyenne Wyoming. This was the first year for this event. Strong talent was on display with members of the 2018 and 2021 classes participating in the event. Prospects came together in a pro-style workout to strut their stuff in front of the PBR scouting staff.

Player Analysis 

Logan Cline 2B / SS / East, WY / 2018

6-foot-0, 155-pound, right hand hitting MIF who ran a 7.59 60.  At the plate he hits from a slightly crouched stance.  He has a slow load and good weight transfer to the front side.  Swing path is slightly uphill and he showed good bat control to all fields.  Exit velocity was 87 MPH for this event.  In the field he uses long legs to cover good ground up the middle.  He shows soft hands with good transfer.  He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with an accurate 71 MPH arm.

 

AJ Folds OF / LHP / East, WY / 2018

5-foot-9, 165-pound left hand hitting center fielder/LHP.  At the plate he is aggressive on his load and drives the ball into the gaps.  He shows good bat control with an uphill swing path.  Exit velocity was 86 MPH for this event.  In the field he shows good athletic movements to the ball, he attacks the ball coming in and delivers an accurate throw to the bag.  On the mound he he gets to a good balanced position and delivers the ball with an effortless motion.  He showed good command of both sides of the plate and threw all three pitches for strikes.  Fastball was 73 MPH, but he has more in the tank.  Folds would be called upon to pitch in a tournament that started the next day.  He showcased a 57-59 MPH curve with late break in on the right hand hitter.

 

Cooper Hack RHP / C / Natrona County, WY / 2020

5-foot-8, 170-pound right hand hitting RHP/C who ran a 9.65 60.  At the plate he hits from an upright hands held high stance.  He uses a lift and place stride for timing.  Exit velocity was 70 MPH for this event, but he did hit several balls hard up the middle during the live round.  At first base he showed good awareness around the bag and was accurate across the field at 66 MPH.  On the mound he uses a big rocker step and gets to balance.  He falls towards the plate, fastball velocity will increase with stronger drive to the plate.  Fastball was 71 MPH with good command of the inner half of the plate.  

 

 

Kyler Henderson RHP / 3B / NATRONA COUNTY, WY / 2021

5-foot-8, 130-pound right hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran an 8.4 60.  At the plate he hits from an open stance with a long stride to come square.  He uses a slow load of his hands to get to the launch position.  He hits off his back side and uses an uphill swing path to produce several balls with carry into the gaps.  Exit Velocity was 73 MPH.  Behind the plate he showed soft hands and good movements.  Pop-time was 2.38 to second.  On the mound he sinks and drives hard to the plate.  He delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot and showed good control of his pitches.  Fastball command was there and velocity was 71 MPH.  He also showcased a 62-63 MPH curve with late 11/5 break and a 65-66 MPH curve that worked down in the zone.  

 

 

Shayden Jones 3B / 2B / Glenrock, WY / 2021

5-foot-11,130-pound left hand hitting 3B/RHP who ran a 8.90 60.  At the plate he stands tall with a quick load of his hands on the pitch.  Weight spins through the zone on contact with a slight uphill path.  Bat does a nice job of staying in the zone for an extended time.  Exit Velocity was 75 MPH.  In the field he is tall and lanky and uses his long legs to close ground on the ball.  He showed soft hands and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot.  Defensively he is accurate with a 68 MPH arm.  On the mound he uses a big rocker step to get his motion going, he gets to balance and falls to the plate.  He lands in-line with the plate and delivers from a 3/4 arm slot.  Fastball was 66 MPH with good command, his out pitch was a 53-54 MPH knuckle that danced well in the Wyoming breeze.  

 

 

Morgan Pickett LHP / OF / Natrona County, WY / 2021

5-foot-10, 165-pound left hand hitting OF/LHP who ran a 7.90 60.  At the plate he uses a double tap and long stride on the swing.  His bat travels an uphill path and he finished with high hands.  Exit velocity was an event best 90 MPH and he hit several balls hard into the gaps during the live round.  In the field he shows quick actions to the ball and always ended up in good throwing position.  He delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot with a 73 MPH arm velocity.  On the mound he gets to a good balance position and sinks and drive to the plate.  He lands in-line and delivers from an over the top arm slot.  Fastball was 75 MPH with late run.  He showed good command of both sides of the plate.  He showcased a 52-53 MPH curve with sweeping break across the zone.  

 

 

Chance Sutton SS / C / Pathways Homeschool/South High School, WY / 2018

5-foot-6, 130-pound right hand hitting C/MIF who ran a 7.90 60.  At the plate he hits from an open stance with a long stride to come square.  He has a flat bat path and keeps the barrel in the zone for an extended amount of time.  He showed good extension and lower leg drive and power to the left side.  Exit velocity was 75 MPH for this event.  In the field he showed good reaction and smooth fielding actions.  He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a quick release.  Arm velocity from short was 66 MPH with accuracy.  Behind the plate he receives pitches with soft hands and had a quiet body on the pitch.  Does a nice job throwing through the plate and pop-times were 2.03-2.05 with a 63 MPH arm velocity.

 

 

Riley Schlimm C / 3B / Cheyenne Central, WY / 2018

5-foot10, 170-pound right hand hitting C/3B who ran a 7.49 60.  At the plate he stands tall with a slow load to his back side.  A lift and place stride starts the swing and he hits off a solid front side.  His bat travels a slight uphill path and he produced several deep fly balls to the gaps during the live round.  Exit velocity was 88 MPH.  In the field he shows good range and quick hands at 3B, he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot.  Arm velocity was 78 MPH across the diamond.  Behind the plate he impressed with quick feet and soft hands while receiving pitches.  Throws were accurate to the bag and pop-time was 2.08-2.10.

 

 

 

 

Cyler Lewis RHP / OF / Glenrock , WY / 2020

5-foot-10, 135-pound right hand hitting OF/RHP who ran a 7.70 60.  At the plate he stand tall and uses a level swing path to keep the bat in the hitting zone.  He showed good control of the bat and hit well to all fields.  Exit velocity was 75 MPH and during the live round he hit several hard line drives up the middle.  In the field he moves well in the outfield and will continue to grow into his frame.  He showed good awareness on balls left and right and delivered an accurate ball from a high 3/4 arm slot at 66 MPH.  On the mound his motion is quick and compact.  He lands in-line with the plate and finishes square on the pitch.  He throws from an over the top arm slot.  Fastball was 73 MPH with good command of both sides of the plate.  He also showcased 58-59 MPH curve with sweeping break and a 59-60 MPH change with late downward break.
