Class 1 and 2 Champions Crowned

Class 1 and Class 2 champions were determined Thursday afternoon at Meador Park in Springfield. LaPlata took home the Class 1 title after holding off a seventh inning rally by Liberal, while New Bloomfield easily handled Summit Chrstian Academy to take home the Class 2 championship trophy.

Class 1 Championship Game

 

LaPlata brought home the Class 1 Championship, defeating Liberal 7 to 6.

Offensively, LaPlata was led by SS David Christman, who went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run scored. Cole Wheeler, Christian Bunch, Justin Riggins, and Taylor Wheeler also contributed with 1 hit and 1 RBI each.

LaPlata jumped out to a 7 to 3 lead going into the top of the seventh. Liberal scored 3 runs in the top of the 7th, and left the tying and winning runs on base.

Justin Riggins picked up the win, going 6 2/3 innings and giving up 6 runs on 7 hits. Tyler Clay went 1/3 of an inning to pick up the save.

This is the first State Championship in school history for LaPlata.

 

Class 2 Championship Game

In the Class 2 championship game, New Bloomfield walloped Summit Christian Academy by a score of 20 to 4. A 10 run 7th inning blew open the game for the Wildcats.

The New Bloomfield offense erupted for 25 hits in the championship winning game. CF Brendan Bailey was a perfect 6 for 6 at the plate with 3 RBIs and 5 runs scored. Jacob Riken led the Wildcat offense going 4 for 6 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. New Bloomfield had 5 batters with multiple hits on the day.

Starting pitcher Greg Bedsworth went the distance, allowing 6 runs and 4 hits, while striking out 5 batters.
